Morphettville Racing Tips 8 July 2026 — can Jolly land a double?
Morphettville Racing Tips 8 July 2026 — can Jolly land a double?
There’s a very Morphettville-flavoured question running through this card: when Richard and Chantelle Jolly bring a team here, do you fight them or follow them? They don’t need to “dominate” a meeting to matter, but the numbers say they turn up often enough, and they hit often enough, that you have to price their runners properly. Today they’ve got key bullets across the program, including a pair in the early juvenile maiden and another in the later sprint maiden.
We’ve only got four races on the page here, all on turf, and they’re the kind of races where you win by reading intent and race shape rather than pretending a skinny set of exposed figures can do it all for you. These Morphettville racing tips are built to get you in, get you a strong opinion where it exists, and save your bankroll where it doesn’t.
Morphettville — the setup
Limited course form across today’s fields. Most runners have one or two prior visits here, so I’m treating “track stats” as a nudge rather than a rule unless the jockey or trainer sample is actually meaningful.
What I do trust at this venue is proven operators in the saddle and stables that repeatedly place their horses well here. Two quick anchors for the day:
- Harry Grace has 42 rides at Morphettville for 7 wins and 17 placings. That’s a proper body of work, and he turns up in multiple races today.
- R & C Jolly have 111 runners here for 15 wins and 41 placings. You don’t fluke that over this many starters.

Race-by-race Morphettville predictions
Race 1: Croser Mdn Plate — 12:10, 1148m
I’m starting with the stable, because it’s the cleanest signal in a 2yo maiden: Pure Crown (gate 3) looks the Jolly runner most likely to land in the first half of the race and stay there. In these early 1148m races at Morphettville, barrier and intent matter. Gate 3 gives Harry Grace a simple map: hold a spot, don’t get dragged into a wide chase, and make the field come around you.
The other Jolly, Morlock (gate 9), has already shown a bit more on exposed form (he’s been thereabouts), but he’s drawn to do extra work. If this turns into a messy, fast-run juvenile race, I’d rather be the one with the soft run from the inside-third than the one building momentum from wider lanes.
The danger is She’s Iconnic (gate 1). Her one Morphettville run wasn’t a placing, but she did at least see the track, and gate 1 gives Will Price options. If she’s learned anything from that experience, she can pinch cheap lengths at the right time.
Play: Pure Crown win. Small saver quinella with She’s Iconnic if you want insurance against the inside-runner beating you in a juvenile scramble.
Race 2: Thomas Farms Mdn Plate — 12:45, 1750m
The puzzle here is simple: who actually wants to win a 1750m maiden today, and who is just filling a run. I want the horse that’s been living around the finish and has a map that doesn’t require miracles, so I land on Prancing Fool (gate 1) with Brooke King aboard.
The form line “052” is the right kind of trajectory for this grade, and gate 1 takes away most of the bad outcomes: he either leads, or leaders-back, or he gets the fence run and waits for the split. King has a strong enough Morphettville record (88 rides, 30 placings) to make that draw count.
The horse that can ruin the party is Mystrix (gate 14). She’s been knocking on the door (the “5-3933” profile), but she’s drawn to cover ground. If they overdo it early and the backmarkers can swoop, she’s one of the few in this field arriving in the race rather than fading out of it.
One more note: Matthew Chadwick is still looking for a win at this course from 36 rides. That doesn’t make his mounts impossible, but it does push me away from taking short prices about anything he rides here.
Play: Prancing Fool win. Exacta box Prancing Fool and Mystrix for a small add-on.
Race 3: The Junction Mdn Plate — 13:20, 1148m
I’ll open with the market problem, even without live prices: punters tend to overpay for “nice names” and underpay for the horses drawn to control the race. Sassy Little Miss (gate 1) gets the perfect set-up to run a much better race than her single exposed run suggests. Caitlin Tootell is the kind of rider who can make gate 1 feel like a weapon, not a trap. She rides Morphettville well enough (64 rides, 18 placings) that I trust her to avoid getting pocketed until it’s too late.
Against her is the obvious stable force: Scooped (gate 3) from Richards and Moyle with Tahlia Johnstone. Scooped has only one Morphettville run on the books and it was a decent effort without being a “right, that wins next start” statement, but he’s drawn to stalk the leaders and be the first horse asked to extend. If he’s got even a small fitness jump, he’s in the finish.
I’m respecting Settle Petal (gate 16) as the danger. She’s shown enough (including a second in her two-run form) to suggest she can run time late, but the draw is a tax. She needs luck, tempo, and the right moment to peel out, and that’s a lot to buy in a maiden sprint.
Play: Sassy Little Miss each-way. Saver win on Scooped if the market leans hard to the inside and gives you overs about the stalker.
Race 4: Winning Edge Presentations Plate (C1) — 13:55, 2218m
This is the best betting race on the card because we finally get a horse with a profile you can lean on. Moussaka comes in off “272631”, and that’s not just pretty numbers, it screams reliability in this kind of Class 1 staying contest. The map looks workable from gate 8, and J Holder is a serious Morphettville rider: 113 rides here for 18 wins and 38 placings. That’s not a cute stat, it’s a long-term edge.
Moussaka also fits the classic 2218m pattern: stay in touch, don’t burn petrol, and keep building from the 600m rather than trying to sprint at the 200m. If this turns into a grind, he’s the one I want grinding.
The danger is Master Of Ceremony (form “604333”). He’s been around the mark for a while, and if they walk early, his ability to quicken off a slow tempo becomes more relevant than raw staying strength. The worry with him is less talent and more “does he find one better again”.

Play: Moussaka win. If you’re playing exotics, Moussaka to beat Master Of Ceremony reads as the cleanest two-horse story in the race.
The plays
I’m not trying to be a hero on a short card with a couple of thin maidens, but there’s still a way to attack it.
- NAP: Moussaka (Race 4, 13:55). Holder’s Morphettville strike rate sits around one win per six rides, and this horse brings the most dependable recent profile on the card.
- Value: Sassy Little Miss (Race 3, 13:20) each-way. Gate 1 plus Tootell’s course record gives her the chance to outrun the single-digit form line.
- Banker for multis: Prancing Fool (Race 2, 12:45) to place. The draw and recent trajectory make him the least complicated runner in an otherwise awkward maiden.
- Each-way angle: Sassy Little Miss again if the bookies let you. Inside draws in these sprints can turn “hasn’t shown much yet” into “was always going to improve second up”.
- Course angle to keep: When the Jolly yard load up at Morphettville, they’re worth following more often than opposing. They win about one in seven here across 111 runners, which is a real sample, not noise.
Next time you see a Holder or Grace booking at this track on a horse that maps cleanly, treat it like a starting point for your whole bet, not an afterthought.
