Tamworth Racing Tips 24 April 2026 — can Nirmata do it again?

Nobody needs a reminder that Tamworth can make smart horses look plain if they land in the wrong spot, or if they cop a weight swing they cannot absorb. That is why today’s little four-race program is more interesting than it looks on paper: we have a last start Tamworth winner stepping into a Benchmark sprint with upside, a couple of lightly-raced 3YOs who look like they have been placed to win, and two maiden races where one clean tactical decision can decide the whole story.

This is written like I’ve done the form so you don’t have to. You’ll get a clear pick in every race, one danger that can beat it, and an honest staking line. Odds were not available in the feed at the time of writing, so this is a profile-and-shape read rather than price shopping. Still, the angles are there if you want to play.

Tamworth, the setup

We are on turf, with the card built around two sharp 1094m races and one at 1531m. With this sort of program, I lean hard into barriers and intent: who controls the first 300m, and who gets to build momentum before the bend.

Course form is thin across most runners. Plenty have only one or two previous goes here, so treat it as a reference point rather than a badge. The only runner on today’s four races who brings a clear “been here and won” stamp is Nirmata, who won on its only start at Tamworth.

One little course-note I do trust because it’s built on real volume: the riders who repeatedly make good decisions here. Angel Brennan has 10 rides at Tamworth for 2 wins and 5 placings, and Braith Nock has 12 rides for 1 win and 6 placings. That is enough history to matter, especially in these small-field tactical races.

Race-by-race

Race 1: Koobah Performance Horses Romantic Dream 2yo Plate — 12:40, 1094m

Putinacall is the one I want to be with early. The formline is simple but it’s the right kind: a last-start winner (form: 1), drawn to get a soft run from gate 2, and they have kept the weight at 125.6. In these early juvenile races at Tamworth, barrier and race sense matters as much as raw talent, and Putinacall looks like it can land in the first four without doing anything fancy.

The local tick is there too, but don’t overcook it: Putinacall won on its only start at Tamworth. That’s a nice reference, not a “track specialist” tag.

The danger is What A Scandal. The form (92) says this horse is already competitive and it maps to be involved again from gate 7. If it steps clean and gets cover at the right time, it has the race fitness edge over a few first starters.

If you want a little blowout for the minors, Cool Zumbelina reads as the stable-and-rider combo you respect in a 2YO plate: Nathan Doyle and Mitchell Bell can win these when the horse has any clue.

Staking: Win bet Putinacall. Small saver quinella with What A Scandal if you like insurance.

Race 2: Win Network Super Mdn Showcase Plate — 13:15, 1094m

Here’s the puzzle: do you take the exposed runners who keep finding one better, or do you side with the lightly raced profile that looks ready to spike?

I land on Head Kahuna. That “33-2” formline screams that it’s been around the mark and deserves a win, and it gets Mitchell Bell to steer from gate 2. In a 1094m maiden, that draw matters. Bell can hold a spot without burning petrol, and Head Kahuna does not need to improve five lengths, it just needs to reproduce.

The main danger is Reign ‘Em In (form 23) from the Neasham and Archibald barn. That stable is efficient with placements, and the booking of Braith Nock has the right feel on a country card. Neasham and Archibald also have a strong Tamworth profile from six runners: 2 wins and 5 placings. That’s a proper sample, and it tells you their horses turn up ready to run here.

If the race turns into a sit-and-sprint, the horse that gets the first crack at them often wins. That is why I have Idol Bye in the multiples from the inside gate, even with no exposed form shown in the card. Barrier 1 at this trip can make a “nothing” run look like a placing.

Staking: Win bet Head Kahuna. Exacta saver with Reign ‘Em In on top if you are playing wider.

Race 3: Elite Sand And Soil Country Boosted Mdn Showcase Plate — 13:50, 1531m

I’m taking the market-on view that Fined For Speeding is the right horse in the right race. It has actual recent consistency (form 05-424), draws gate 1 at 1531m, and gets R Hutchings. That is the whole Tamworth recipe: save ground early, control the corner, and make them come around you.

There’s a bit of depth behind that too. Over the last 90 days, Fined For Speeding has 3 runs for 1 placing and an average finish around the top three to four range. It is not winning yet, but it is staying competitive and that often becomes a win when you get the run of the race from an inside draw.

The danger is Hot Chocks. It has already shown it can run a race (form 3-6), and it drops to 128.9 with a kinder gate (4). If it finds the front without pressure, the backmarkers might never get a clean shot.

Grande Diablo is the other one you include if you are building a trifecta. The “88-2” tells you the penny has started to drop and it gets Braith Nock again, who hits the frame often enough at this track to take seriously.

Staking: Each-way Fined For Speeding (or win only if the price is short). If you bet trifectas, keep Hot Chocks and Grande Diablo onside.

Race 4: Concrete Industry Supplies – John Clift Memorial (Bm58) — 14:25, 1094m

Nirmata is the best betting race on the card for me, and it’s not complicated. It comes off a win (form 1235-1), carries 132.2 which is fair for the profile, and it has already handled Tamworth by winning on its only start here. You do not call that a trend, but you do respect it when most of these are either unknowns at the track or bring losing course runs.

The other piece I like is the rider. Jacob Stiff has 11 rides at Tamworth for 1 win and 4 placings, and that place strike is the thing you want in a Benchmark sprint where positioning decides who gets clear running. Stiff does not need to be a world-beater, he just needs to make the right call at the 600m.

The danger is Echelon, because the form says it belongs (81-722), it draws gate 3, and the Cavanough stable tends to be competitive when they keep a horse in the same grade. Over the last 90 days Echelon has 3 runs for 2 placings, so it’s right there even without a win. If Nirmata gets dragged into a mid-race duel, Echelon can be the one launching at the right time.

If you want a “running on” horse for the multiples, Magnolia Jewel has the kind of form that can improve second-up in grade (4316-8). It’s not a push to win, but it can sneak into the minors if they go too hard up front.

Staking: Win bet Nirmata. Quinella saver with Echelon if you want to protect against the obvious map danger.

The plays

NAP: Nirmata (Race 4, 14:25). The mix of current form, a fair weight, and the fact it has already come to Tamworth and won makes it the one runner on the card with a clean “turn up and do it” profile.

Value: Fined For Speeding (Race 3, 13:50) as an each-way play. Gate 1 at 1531m is a weapon, and the recent finishes say it keeps itself in the fight.

Banker for multis: Putinacall (Race 1, 12:40) to run a place. That low draw and last-start win profile is exactly what you want in a 2YO race where others are still learning the job.

Each-way: If you only take one each-way bet, keep it with Fined For Speeding rather than trying to be a hero in the 2YO.

Course angle to keep: When a Tamworth race looks like it can be controlled from a low gate, back the horse that can take the paint. That is how these races get won, and today’s card has three strong inside-draw chances that fit it.

Next time you see Neasham and Archibald place one at Tamworth with a purposeful booking, treat it like a planned strike rather than a random country runner, because their record here is already thick enough to trust.
