QUEENSLAND OAKS BETTING SNAPSHOT

Renaissance Woman is the $3.80 favourite for the Queensland Oaks with bet365 at the $3.80 quote, just ahead of the last start Australasian Oaks (2000m) winner, Affaire A Suivre, at the $4.60. 

Those two dominate the market and it is the New Zealand filly, Sakura Girl, that is next best at $10 alongside Amokura, while Proscenium Arch, is at $11. So Dazzling ($13), Super Chilled ($15) and Cheval D’Or ($16) head the rest of the 18-horse field and five emergencies. 

QUEENSLAND OAKS FORM ANALYSIS

Nine runners had their last start in the Doomben Roses (2000m), which is always one of the key lead ups to this race. Fireburn took out that Group 2 on May 20 but has been scratched from the Oaks. Renaissance Woman and Sakura Girl filled the minor placings. 

Renaissance Woman was held up in the straight before making up some ground to land less than a length off the winner. Sakura Girl led before running 3rd. They didn’t go that hard in the Roses with the winner going just 1.3 lengths faster than standard benchmark. 

Proscenium Arch was 4th, while Yankee Hussel was 5th. Both have some scope for improvement. Proscenium Arch was posted wide but still managed to run on fairly, while Yankee Hussel seemed to resent the slow tempo but produced the second fastest last 200m. 

I am not sure about the form of that race and whether or not they can measure up to Affaire A Suivre. The Maher/Eustace filly could not have been any more impressive with her Group 1 win at Morphettville in the Australasian Oaks a month ago. 

The daughter of Astern was three and four wide throughout and went for home very early before holding off the challenge from She’s Fit. She went 8.8 lengths faster than standard benchmark and the month in between runs shouldn’t be an issue, nor should the slight step up in distance. 

A couple of these might have a bit of upside and the Kris Lees-trained Amokura is one of those. She has won her past two by a combined margin of 11 lengths. She was far too good in Maiden grade two starts back at Newcastle before winning well at the Sunshine Coast on May 21. Damien Oliver rides and will save ground from barrier 1. 

So Dazzling was never in it in the Rough Habit Plate (2000m) at Doomben two starts ago but was runner-up in the Australian Oaks (2400m) two starts ago. She might need some rain but is unlikely to get that. 

Let Me Reign is one that might be worth a bit of thought at a price. She has the second best last start benchmark figures of any runner, going 3.4 lengths faster than standard when winning at Rosehill over the 2000m on May 20. 

QUEENSLAND OAKS TIPS AND BEST BETS

Hard to go past Affaire A Suivre in the Queensland Oaks. The Maher/Eustace galloper has gone from strength to strength since taking out a Cranbourne maiden three starts ago. She covered a stack of ground before prevailing in the Australasian Oaks and is every chance to get a better run, despite drawing a double digit barrier again. She is the one to beat. Wouldn’t mind having something on a roughie and that horse is Let Me Reign. Not convinced about the Doomben Roses form and think that the this one can measure up somewhat, stepping up from a Rosehill BenchMark 72 race.
