The Galaxy Tips & Preview 2023
Looking for The Galaxy tips and best bets? We dissect times and form to find the winner of the 2023 The Galaxy at Rosehill.
THE GALAXY BETTING SNAPSHOT
The last of the five Group 1 races at Rosehill on Saturday is the Galaxy (1100m) for the sprinters and it is Uncommon James that has been installed as the $4.40 favourite with Palmerbet ahead of Remarque at $7 and Asfoora at $7,50.
The 2021 winner of this race and rising 10-year-old, Eduardo, is at $8.50, while Shades Of Rose is another under double figure odds at $9.50. In The Congo, Zoustyle and Mariamia (all $11) head the rest of the 12-horse field.
THE GALAXY FORM ANALYSIS
Uncommon James comes out of the Oakleigh Plate (1100m), claiming the Sandown Group 1. The four-year-old went 14.6 lengths faster than standard benchmark to defeat Lofty Strike, who has since finished runner-up behind In Secret in the Newmarket Handicap (1200m).
Asfoora botched the start in the Oakleigh Plate before working up and finishing 3rd. She is 3.5kg better at the weights over the winner and draws well in barrier 5. Zoustyle is another that comes out of the Oakleigh Plate and was 5th. He led before tiring late but will strip fitter second up.
Eduardo is one of three gallopers that come out of the Challenge Stakes (1000m), missing out in a head-bobber behind Passive Aggressive, finishing ahead of the 2022 Everest (1200m) winner, Giga Kick.
The veteran went 13 lengths faster than standard in that race and it is worth noting that his best figure in the past two years came when going 17.5 lengths faster than standard to claim this race in 2021.
Remarque was 4th in the Challenge Stakes and gets out to the 1100m. He just lacked the dash over the 1000m and is two from three at the track and trip. Key Largo was 6th in the Challenge Stakes and might be a bit outclassed here but drops 7.5kg.
Shades Of Rose has won seven of 10 career starts and was last seen when 8th in the Everest, beaten three lengths. She comes in with a couple of winning trials and might still have a bit of upside. She is one to keep an eye on for any betting moves.
She is one of five runners with just 51kg, while the three-year-old, Cannonball, gets in on the minimum weight of 50kg. He is among a heap that like to go forward and that could bring the likes of Andermatt, Rocketing By and Key Largo into the race.
THE GALAXY TIPS AND BEST BETS
Settling on Asfoora in the Galaxy, while I wouldn’t mind something each way on Key Largo. The Oakleigh Plate form has held up and the test will be the Sydney way of going for those that come north. Asfoora just needs to begin better and the turnaround in the weights will help at the business end. Like what Key Largo has been producing in recent times and he is racing like the 1100m will suit, while the Bryce Heys-trainend galloper should appreciate a solid tempo up front with just 51kg on his back. Worth a play at big odds.
