Field of 9 declared for Black Caviar Lightning
A small but elite field of nine sprinters has been announced for Saturday’s Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington Racecourse.
Reigning champ Nature Strip has drawn barrier 6 and will be ridden by Jamie Kah despite no jockey being declared officially.
Trained by Chris Waller, Nature Strip defeated stablemate September Run in the 2021 Black Caviar Lightning and will need to fend off another upcoming stablemate this year in Home Affairs.
The three-year-old I Am Invincible colt scored by three lengths in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) last spring running quicker time than Nature Strip did to win the VRC Classic (1200m).
2020 Black Caviar Lightning winner Gytrash will be aiming for another upset victory and has drawn barrier 2 which is the gate both he and Nature Strip won from.
The Everest runner-up Masked Crusader will be looking to go one better against Nature Strip this time around, while Eduardo will be aiming to rack up another win over the world’s best sprinter having defeated him in The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick.
