The unbeaten Nettuno will head towards the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on May 7.

Tony Gollan’s speed machine made it two on the trot when scoring the hot $1.30 favourite in the opener at Doomben on Saturday.

Nettuno led and cruised home by 4-1/2 lengths clocking 1:10.72 for the 1200m, which is around two lengths outside the class average.

But the son of I am Invincible wasn’t asked for an effort in a victory that suggested there was plenty more up the sleeve. Gollan last won the Ken Russell in 2010 with star sprinter Spirit Of Boom.

Still on smart Queenslanders and Nord Lyon finally broke the maiden at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

The three-year-old sat three wide with no cover over the 1000m first-up before powering away on the soft 6 to score by 2-1/2 lengths as the $1.60 favourite.

He’s expected to take aim at some of the better three-year-old races over the Brisbane winter carnival.
