Belmont Park Racing Tips 23 May 2026 — can Pike land the early blow?
Opening
There are meetings where you spend all morning trying to separate a stack of exposed handicapper types, and then there are meetings like this one where the sharpest angle is simple: William Pike at Belmont is a weapon, and he’s only got the one ride on the card. That concentrates the mind.
So the Belmont Park racing tips for Saturday, 23 May, come down to two very different puzzles. Race 1 is a 2yo dash where most of them have shown you flashes and then vanished when the pressure went on. Race 2 is the opposite: older horses, more exposed profiles, and a few who keep finding one or two better without doing much wrong.
Two races, turf, and not much room for passengers. I’ll make a clear play in the 2yo, and I’ll be more selective in the older-horse race where the map and weight spread can make fools of tidy-looking form.
Belmont Park — the setup
Limited course form across today’s fields. Most runners have only one or two Belmont Park visits, so I’m leaning harder on current form patterns, barrier and where the speed is likely to come from.
One thing that does hold water is the riders. A few have enough volume here that their strike rates actually mean something.

| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| W Pike | 39 | 14 | 24 | 35.9 | 61.54 |
| Chris Parnham | 33 | 10 | 17 | 30.3 | 51.52 |
| Holly Nottle | 43 | 10 | 23 | 23.26 | 53.49 |
| Holly Watson | 17 | 2 | 7 | 11.76 | 41.18 |
| Lucy Fiore | 30 | 2 | 11 | 6.67 | 36.67 |
Trainer-wise, there’s one that jumps off the page on raw strike rate but with only three runners here it’s more “keep it in mind” than gospel. Mitchell Pateman has 2 wins from 3 Belmont runners in the sample we’ve got. G and A Williams is the one with the proper volume: 11 runners, 4 wins, and they hit the frame regularly here.
Race-by-race
Race 1: Quayclean Plate — 11:58, 1094m
The cleanest way into this race is to back the rider and the set-up. Luna Will Do gets Pike, draws gate 5, carries 121.2 and looks like the type who can sit just off the speed and make one run rather than being forced into a messy 2yo burn early.
Her form figure is only a “4”, so you’re not buying a proven winner. You’re buying intent and upside. Pike wins more than a third of his Belmont rides and hits the frame better than six times out of ten, and that matters most in these juvenile races where positioning and decision-making are half the battle.
The danger is Levati Dimezzo. She’s already shown she can compete (form “2”), and the Gangemi stable has a decent record bringing them to Belmont. The knock is barrier 9 at 1094m: she’ll need to be sharp or she risks doing work early and paying for it late.
Also in the mix: Dawn Dancer (gate 4) has enough early form to be around the money if she settles, while Lucy Red from gate 1 can improve just by taking luck out of the equation with an economical run.
Staking: Win bet Luna Will Do. If you play exotics, keep it simple and box her with Levati Dimezzo.
Race 2: Tabtouch – Westspeed Platinum (Rs0ly) — 12:33, 1531m
Here’s the question that decides the race: does Nickelplay finally get rewarded, or is he one of those horses who always looks like winning and keeps finding traffic and trouble?
I’m sticking with Nickelplay as the meeting’s best betting play. The profile is rock-solid: form “5-42222” tells you he turns up every time, and in the last 90 days he’s run five times for four placings, averaging second. That’s not “nearly” form, that’s reliable performance that only needs a clean run and the right tempo to turn into a win.
Barrier 11 isn’t a gift over 1531m, but it’s not a death sentence either if the speed is genuine and they string out. With weight 124.5, he doesn’t need miracles, he just needs to land somewhere in the first half and not spot them a start.
The one who can spoil it is Cheryl’s Shout. She comes off “199-71”, and her last two read like a horse who’s come back to herself. More importantly, she maps to get the soft run from gate 4, and that can make a big difference in this grade when others are caught three-wide without cover.
Watch the Williams runner too: Mohegan Ruler (gate 9) is trained by G and A Williams, and that stable hits the frame often at Belmont on meaningful sample size. If the race turns into a sit-and-sprint, he’s the type who can be in the right spot.

Staking: Win bet Nickelplay. Small saver win on Cheryl’s Shout if you want cover for the map advantage.
Where the money goes
NAP: Nickelplay (Race 2, 12:33). He’s been living in the placings lately and his recent five-run block is too consistent to keep ignoring.
Value: Cheryl’s Shout (Race 2). The map is kind and the recent turnaround “-71” says she’s back in the right headspace.
Banker for multis: Luna Will Do (Race 1, 11:58) purely on the Pike factor from a midfield gate that lets him ride the race, not the barrier.
Each-way angle: If you want something that keeps showing up, Nickelplay is the safe profile. Five runs in the last 90 days and he’s collected prize money four times.
Course angle to keep: When Pike turns up to Belmont and only has one bullet to fire, I treat it like a deliberate trip, not a casual pop-in. File that away for next time too.
