Our form expert provides Canberra tips for today’s horse racing at Canberra Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 1 :  No. 5  SUPER VIEW  ($4 with bet365)

Local galloper SUPER VIEW boasts a strong home-track record and in his current form, looks the one to beat here. Last start, the Super One gelding made it two wins from his past three starts when he took out a BM60 Hcp, here over the mile trip. He ran that out, 10.4 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. He steps up to the 2000m here for the first time and has Quayde Krogh sticking with him today. He maps to settle just behind the speed and meeting similar company here, he should take beating again.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7 :  No. 12  DEHERO  ($3.50 with Palmerbet)

Rosehill galloper DEHERO won her Maiden here and returns today in search of back-to-back victories. Last start, the Headwater filly was having just her second race start when she broke through for her Maiden win, here over the 1000m trip. On a Heavy 8 that day, she ran her last 600m, 3.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. She also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Again, Jeff Penza was aboard for that win and backs-up here for today’s contest. She maps to settle in the first half-dozen (with cover) and coming in on the limit, carries just 55.5kgs for the race. With the big weight advantage today, she should prove hard to hold out here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6 :  No. 4  THE BURNING  ($7 with Palmerbet)

Keith Dryden saddles-up THE BURNING here and the local galloper showed enough improvement last start to warrant some thought in this contest. The Sizzling gelding was four starts into this preparation and in need of improvement when he beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp, here over the 1000m sprint. On a Heavy 8 that day, he came from back in the field to finish within a less than a length of victory. He ran his last 600m, 2.9 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best effort here while posting the fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals in the race as well. The blinkers come off here (for the first time) while Jeff Penza sticks with him today after his last-start effort. Up against similar company here, he looks a solid chance of going one better today.
