BEST BET 🏆

Race 3:  No.4  ISLAND MAGIC  ($4 with Unibet)

The Tony Gollan-trained ISLAND MAGIC is second-up today and ticks enough boxes here to attract plenty of interest. Last start, the Hinchinbrook mare resumed after nine months in the paddock and did well to finish fourth in a BM68, here over 1110m on a Heavy 8 that day. She has since trialled and with Ryan Maloney aboard, duly won that hit-out. Maloney is back in the saddle here, boasting a top-shelf record with the mare, with five previous rides ending in two wins and three runner-up finishes. She has placed in all three second-up efforts to date and all three career wins have come on wet tracks. Conditions suit and her rider’s record just glows. She looks the one to beat today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4:  No.6  HOLLYWOOD NORTH  ($2.65 with BoomBet)

Stuart Kendrick saddles-up HOLLYWOOD NORTH here and fitter for two runs back, looks a major player in this contest. Formerly a resident with the Chris Waller stable, the Vancouver gelding was off the scene for almost ten months before resuming in a BM80 at Eagle Farm over 1200m where he finished fifth, beaten just 1.5 lengths on the line. Then last start, the five-year-old clobbered them in a Class 4 Hcp at the Sunshine Coast over 1400m. That day, the extra distance suited as he put 3.5 lengths on them in a canter and on a Soft 7 as well. Five starts on heavy tracks have produced two wins and as many minor placings so today’s conditions should be right up his alley. Michael Rodd returns for his second ride on the gelding and from gate three, he should enjoy a trouble-free run. His Doomben debut today can easily be a winning one.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6:  No.5  MAJORELLE  ($3.10 with Ladbrokes)

With several early scratchings reported, that makes the job here that much easier for the Matt Dunn-trained MAJORELLE who is unbeaten in two starts this time in and is capable of bringing up the hat-trick today. Last start, the Zoustar gelding franked his first-up Ipswich win when he clobbered them at Lismore. On a Heavy 8 that day, Brodie Loy was legged aboard for the first time and with 59kgs to carry, he steered the four-year-old to a 1.5 length victory in the 1110m contest, against Class 3 contenders. Formerly with the Kacy Fogden stable, he is now two from two for Dunn and as winning form is good form and with Brodie Loy remaining aboard, he looks every chance of making it three-straight today.
