BEST BET 🏆
Race 1: No.10 WHITE TIGHTS
Queanbeyan galloper, WHITE TIGHTS sees the track for the first time today and on seven-day back-up here, looks one of the main chances in this contest. Last start, the Sports Edition filly made it back-to-back podium finishes when she took home third prize in a 1200m Maiden on her home track. She drew wide (8 of 10) that day and was never on the track, trapped four-wide to the turn. She straightened even wider but finished strongly down the centre of the track and arrived in time for the minor prize (just missing second place in a photo). They flew the 1200m that day, running it in a nippy 1:08.8, just .02 outside the track record. Fourth-up today, the filly will be at her peak and appreciating the extra distance as well. Drawn much better today in gate four, she maps to settle near mid-field (with cover) and coming in on the limit (56.5kgs), should prove hard to hold out here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5: No.6 DE LUCA
The Matt Smith-trained DE LUCA has her second race start today and catching the eye on debut, looks a winning chance in this contest. Last start, the well-bred Zoustar filly settled back in the field, spotting the leaders six lengths on settling. As they turned, the field opened up, leaving a saloon passage for the three-year-old to exploit as she took the run and finished strongly to grab third prize on the line. Clearly doing her best work late, she should relish the longer trip today and drops 2kgs for the assignment as well. Andrew Calder is the new pilot today and with a clear run home again, she should prove hard to beat here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.8 STEELY GIRL
Warwick Farm trainer, Marc Conners has STEELY GIRL firing on all cylinders this time in and with plenty in her favour today, she looks the one to beat here. Last start, the Real Steel filly finally broke through for her maiden win and did it in style as she put more than two lengths on them in the 1300m event at Canberra. Regular stable rider Deanne Panya was aboard that day and rode the filly a treat, settling her one out, one back with the run of race. Crossing heels on straightening, the three-year-old simply proved too good in the run home and put a space on them as she cruised to victory that day. Today, Panya is in pride of place, sticking with the filly and from an ideal draw (in gate three), maps to settle in a similar position to last start. With a trouble-free run here, she can go back-to-back today.
