BEST BET 🏆
Race 8: No.2 SON PAK FU ($2.70 with Palmerbet)
Shooting for the hat-trick tonight, SON PAK FU ticks all the boxes here and will take plenty of beating. Last start, the Fighting Sun gelding franked his victory two starts back by repeating the dose here, putting two lengths on a Class 4 field in a 1200m Hcp. He clocked 1:09.4 for the contest with Jerry Chau steering the ship that night. He is up in weight tonight, but drawn ideally in gate three, Chau sticks with him and looks set to celebrate the hat-trick as well tonight.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.7 HK DRAGON ($6.50 with Neds)
Doug Whyte saddles-up HK DRAGON here and already making an impression, looks set for back-to-back wins tonight. Last start, the Japanese sired gelding was fresh off a lengthy five-month absence where showing no signs of fatigue, he clobbered his opposition in a Class 4, here over the mile. He ran a new personal best that night, covering the trip, 5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Lyle Hewitson steered him to that big win and sticks with him tonight. Well drawn in gate six, he will strip even fitter here and is capable of giving this a real shake.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5: No.2 MEANINGFUL STAR ($10 with Ladbrokes)
The Francis Lui-trained MEANINGFUL STAR is second-up tonight and ticks enough boxes here to stake a serious claim to victory. Last start, the British-bred galloper resumed after a year off the scene and wasn’t disgraced when finishing unplaced in a Class 3 Hcp over 1800m, beaten just 2.5 lengths on the line. He ran the trip out, 3.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here. Drawn better tonight in gate four, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen and boasts a win and three runner-up finishes from five starts at the track and trip. Already a three-time winner when second-up, he resume is screaming ‘look out’ tonight. Currently at double-figures, he looks the best each-way chance at the meeting.
