BEST BET 🏆
Race 6: No.4 VAN NUYS ($2.20 with Unibet)
The Symons & Laxon Team saddle-up VAN NUYS here who is third-up and ready to win. Last start, the Fiorente mare was second-up off a lengthy spell when she showed a ton of improvement by beating all but one home in a BM65 Hcp, here on her home track over 1800m. With Jayden Lloyd aboard (for his sixth ride on the mare), she produced the best closing sectionals of the race but just couldn’t reel in the leader, beaten just under a length on the day. Placed third-up last preparation, she is already a winner here and courtesy of her Melbourne Cup winning sire, she has good ‘staying’ blood in her veins. Even fitter after two runs back, Lloyd sticks with her and she will take beating here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 8: No.2 HALF CROWN ($3.60 with Bet Right)
Trained at Eagle Farm by Chris Anderson, HALF CROWN is second-up today and his resume suggests he has the stats that put him right in this contest. Last start, the Foxwedge gelding was having his first start for the Anderson stable and after a lengthy five-month break, did well to best all but one home in a BM65 Hcp, here over 1400m. He was held up at vital stages in the run home and was beaten just half a length on the line. He is unbeaten second-up (two from two), and with the in-form James Orman on board for his first ride on the four-year-old, he looks a major player for the top prize today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.2 EVERLAST ($6 with BoomBet)
The Chris Munce-trained EVERLAST ticks enough boxes here to be considered a serious contender for the main prize today. Last start, the Shalaa gelding broke a string of six-straight minor placings when he finally shook the maiden monkey and broke through for his first win in 12 starts. With Justin Huxtable in the saddle, he took control on straightening and fought off all the challenges to get there in a tight finish. Third-up today, he should be almost at his peak here and already a winner at the track and distance now, he can get the job done today at odds.
