BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No.2  GALAXY GENERAL

Lee Freedman saddles-up GALAXY GENERAL here who has found the podium four times in five starts this preparation and ticks enough boxes here to suggest he can keep that trend going today. Last start, the Zoustar gelding took on Open company and did well to finish third in a 1200m contest on the poly track at the Gold Coast. They clipped along in that race, covering the journey in in a slick 1:08.6. The four-year-old drops sharply in grade here and carries more weight but after the claim, fares well with 60.5kgs. Jai Williams has a wealth of experience with the galloper, scoring two wins and four minor placings from his eight rides to date. From gate three, he maps to settle better than mid-field (with cover) and a clear run to the line should see him hard to hold out today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4:  No.2  SHADYVALE STORM

The Paul Butterworth-trained SHADYVALE STORM has been knocking on the door for a win this time in and fourth-up today, looks every chance of achieving that goal here. Last start, the Heroic Valour gelding wasn’t far away when finishing third in a BM62 Hcp over 1900m on the Gold Coast poly track. He drew wide that day and pushed forward soon after the start to lead from the 1600m mark and lumping 61.5kgs, fought on gamely to hang on and take home that minor prize. He draws better today in gate three and maps to settle on the speed. Cody Collis is the new pilot today and after his claim, the four-year-old carries 1.5kgs less than last start. He won fourth-up last preparation and at his peak today, looks a strong chance of taking this contest out.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.9  FLEUR DE VIE

The Jamie Bayliss-trained FLEUR DE VIE broke through for her maiden win last start and looks well placed here to frank that effort and go back-to-back today. Coming off four starts this preparation, she her fifth appearance, here on the turf track, and at peak fitness, clobbered her rivals in the 1100m Maiden, putting more than three lengths on them that day. The trainer’s son, Jake was aboard that day and steers the ship again in this contest. On a high after that last-start win, the four-year-old looks all set to tackle the poly track for the first time and after early scratchings, jumps three from the fence today where she maps to be just behind the speed on settling. Provided she handles the poly track, she can give this a real shake today at odds.
