Carnarvon Racing Tips 12 June 2026 — can Pateman pinch both maidens?

Two races. Same trip. Same dirt strip. That makes this Carnarvon meeting refreshingly simple and dangerously easy to overthink. When everything’s 1312m on dirt, you stop pretending you’ve found some hidden “distance angle” and you start asking the questions that actually matter: who maps to get the soft run, who can cop a bit of kickback, and which yard has placed their horses to win rather than just to have a day out.

The obvious story is Aaron Pateman. He’s got three runners across the two maidens and, at this track, his volume is meaningful: 14 starters here for one win and four placings. It’s not dominance, but it’s enough to treat his placements with respect. Below you’ll get my Carnarvon racing tips for both races, with the betting kept practical because maiden dirt racing is no place for ego.

Carnarvon — the setup

Both races are 1312m on dirt with no going listed. That usually pushes me toward horses that can land handy, relax, and sustain, rather than the ones that need a clean, late slingshot run. Barriers matter, but so does who’s riding like they own the track.

Limited course form across today’s fields. Most runners have only one or two starts at Carnarvon, so treat it as a note, not a label.

Race-by-race

Race 1: Tabtouch Mdn — 13:26, 1312

All King’s looks like the runner with a bit of intent behind it. That 67-43 profile reads like a horse that has already found the level and is edging toward a maiden win rather than one that’s just making up numbers. The camp has also made a decision: Kate Pateman stays with him again, and while her Carnarvon strike-rate isn’t something you lean on (10 rides is enough to note, not enough to canonise), she’s at least ridden a winner here and knows how this dirt track can turn into a grind from the 600m.

Gate five gives her options. She can hold a spot without burning petrol, which matters because plenty of these have been getting to the line like they’ve already had enough at the 200. If All King’s lands in the first four in running, he’s the one I want taking the last shot.

The danger is Royal Riviera. The form (546) says “still learning”, but from barrier six and with Elisha Whittington aboard, you can see the plan: roll into a spot and try to make it a stamina test. Royal Riviera’s only had one start at Carnarvon and finished midfield, so you’re betting on improvement rather than a track edge.

Bet: Win bet All King’s. Small saver quinella with Royal Riviera if you want cover in a thin maiden.

Race 2: Avis Carnarvon Mdn — 14:08, 1312

This is the puzzle race because you’ve got a couple of habitual place-getters and a debutant drawn to get every favour. I’m siding with Costa Star because the profile screams “keeps finding the line” and the set-up finally lets him use it: barrier two, a feather 116.8, and Giaan O’Donnell riding. O’Donnell hasn’t won at Carnarvon yet, but he hits the frame half the time from his four rides here, and that sort of “gets them into the race” feel is exactly what you want in a maiden where plenty won’t handle the pressure when they’re eyeballed.

The other reason I can’t look past Costa Star is the consistency. His recent form line is stacked with top-four finishes (462362), and over the last 90 days he’s run five times for three placings. That’s not a winning strike, but it tells you the engine is there. In a race full of query horses, reliability is a weapon.

Placid Rom is the danger and the market likely latches onto him for good reason: first start, barrier one, and A Hearn booked. Hearn rides this track well, winning one in five and placing three in ten at Carnarvon, which is a proper sample. If the debutant can absorb the kickback and hold the rail without over-racing, he can pinch it.

One more to keep safe in wider plays: River Beauty. She’s had two goes at Carnarvon without threatening (average finish 6.5 across those visits), but Jason Li is the local place machine and he often turns these battlers into money horses just by riding them colder and getting one run.

Bet: Each-way Costa Star. Saver win bet Placid Rom because the map says “dangerous if left alone”.

The plays

My Carnarvon predictions come down to trusting the horses that keep turning up and running their race. Maidens on dirt can make smart punters look silly when a debutant bolts in, but you still want to bet from solid ground.

NAP: Costa Star (Race 2, 14:08). Drawn to stalk, in light, and his recent form reads like a horse that doesn’t need miracles to be in the finish.

Value: All King’s (Race 1, 13:26). He’s the one with the “getting closer” pattern, and he’s already shown enough that you’re not guessing blindly.

Banker for multis: Costa Star to place. He’s not a serial winner, but he gives you a professional effort more often than most of these.

Each-way play: Costa Star again. Over the past 90 days he’s placed three times from five runs, and that’s the sort of repeatable consistency you can actually bet around.

Course angle: If you’re weighing up riders late, Jason Li is the Carnarvon jockey I want onside. From 10 rides here he’s placed six times, and that matters when races get messy.

Keep an eye on how the inside lanes play early. If the rail is gold, barrier one in Race 2 becomes even more potent next time you see a debutant drawn there with A Hearn up.
