Gawler Racing Tips 13 May 2026 — can Causeweluvadelaide do it again?

Racingbase Staff Racingbase Staff

The most useful clue on this Gawler program isn’t hidden in a sectional or a whisper from the yard. It’s sitting in plain sight in Race 4: Causeweluvadelaide turns up off a five-run burst of form and it has already won on its only start at this track. That’s not enough to call it a “Gawler horse”, but it’s enough to take seriously when plenty of today’s runners are still learning what this place asks of them.

You’ll get these Gawler racing tips as a proper mate’s guide: who I want to be with, who can beat them, and how I’d actually bet it. Four races, turf, and a card that leans heavily on maidens early before we get a Benchmark closer that finally gives us something with a bit of shape.

Gawler — the setup

There isn’t a deep pool of course form across today’s fields. Most of the runners have one or two goes here, so I’m leaning harder on current form patterns, barriers, and how each race maps rather than pretending a one-start “record” is a destiny.

Race-by-race

Race 1: Gawler Arms Hotel Mdn Plate — 12:45, 1866m

Winning All Round is the one I want to be with, because it’s the only runner in this field who has already shown it can turn up and run a race without needing ten things to go right. The form is short and sharp (2 and 3 from two starts), and that’s the right profile for a maiden over a trip where plenty of these will be guessing when the pressure goes on.

The knock is the gate (9). Over 1866m you can still win from there, but you don’t want to be posted three wide doing work the whole way. If Johnstone can slide across, find a spot, and build the run from the 700m, it’s the horse with the clearest “keeps coming” look in the race. The 90-day snapshot backs it up too: it’s had 2 runs and hit the frame both times, so it’s not just turning up for fitness.

The danger is Minimise (barrier 11) with that “53” start to its career. It has upside and it won’t surprise if it’s the one launching late, but it’s asking for a lot from a wide draw if the tempo backs off midrace.

Staking: Win bet Winning All Round. Exacta saver with Minimise for cover if the map flips against us.

Race 2: Matrix Solar Solutions Mdn Plate — 13:20, 1203m

Here’s the question that decides the race: does Platino have the sprint to put these away, or does it need 1400m plus to show its best? I’m leaning toward the former, mainly because it draws to get the run (barrier 6) and Todd Pannell can make a 1200m maiden feel like a staying test if he wants to by improving from the 600m and keeping them under pressure.

Platino’s single “3” on debut says it measured up straight away, and the stable placement looks like they expect natural improvement rather than needing a full prep. In maidens like this, I’ll happily back the horse that has already found the line once rather than the serial placers who keep finding one better.

The one I fear is Goldfields Grey (barrier 1). That draw keeps it out of trouble and its form reads like it’s been around the mark often enough to pinch one if the favourite has a flat spot. If Opperman rides it cold and gets the right split, it’s the type that can make you look silly late.

Staking: Win bet Platino. Small saver quinella with Goldfields Grey.

Race 3: Irongate Australia Mdn Plate — 13:55, 1203m

The market will probably lean to the familiar names, but this is a race where I’m siding with progression over reputation. Maldivica has been building: “38-434” is the profile of a horse that keeps putting itself in the fight, and from barrier 4 it gets the sort of run that doesn’t need miracles. Teagan Voorham rides this track well enough, and she’s the type who won’t overcomplicate a maiden. Find the spot, stay out of the burn, get going early.

Maldivica also brings the only recent-form stat in this race that I actually want to anchor to: in the last 90 days it’s had 3 runs and collected 1 placing, and the average finish is right in the zone of a horse about to land a maiden if it holds its level.

Emotive (barrier 8) is the danger. It’s been knocking on the door (“34-72”), and it has already placed on its only start at Gawler. That doesn’t make it a track horse, but it does tell you it handles the place. If the speed is strong and they fan at the top of the straight, it’s the one I can see rolling over the top of my pick.

Staking: Win bet Maldivica. If you’re playing each-way, do it on Emotive, not the pick.

Race 4: Sportsbet Jockey Watch (Bm58) — 14:30, 1647m

This is the best betting race on the card because it’s the one with a proper anchor and a couple of obvious ways the race can be run. I’m backing Causeweluvadelaide. It comes here in flying nick (“8-36191”), it draws acceptably (barrier 6), and it has already won on its only start at Gawler. Again, that’s not a trend, but it matters when a few of these are either old legs or unreliable.

The 90-day profile adds fuel: it’s had 4 runs for 2 wins. That’s hard, current evidence it’s in the right part of its prep. It does carry 59kg (130.0), so you want it finding cover early rather than being forced to chase wide. If Voorham can land one-one or midfield with a back, the horse has the momentum to put the race away from the 400m.

My danger is Morlaix (barrier 5). It’s been consistent without winning (the “22235U” reads better than it looks if you forgive the mishap last time), and it has placed in both course visits. That’s the kind of steady Gawler familiarity that can punish a favourite who has to do work.

And don’t ignore Maxildo (barrier 1) as the “right run” horse. From the paint, Will Price can hold a spot and have the last crack. It has placed on its only Gawler start and its latest form line (“9994-2”) hints it’s found something again.

Staking: Win bet Causeweluvadelaide. Saver quinella with Morlaix. If you’re playing wider, add Maxildo for trifectas.

The plays

If you only have one bet, I’m keeping it simple. NAP: Causeweluvadelaide (Race 4, 14:30). It’s the runner with the best current strike profile (2 wins from 4 in the last 90 days) and it’s already proven it can win at Gawler when it gets the right run.

Value: Maldivica (Race 3, 13:55) because the form is trending the right way and the draw gives it a clean map. If it’s any sort of each-way price, I’d rather be with it than a wide-drawn “talent” horse that needs luck.

Banker for multis: Platino (Race 2, 13:20). One run, already competitive, and Pannell sticks. That’s the safest profile on a thin maiden.

Each-way play: Emotive (Race 3) as the reliable danger. It’s placed on its only Gawler visit and keeps running into the money often enough to trust in a race like this.

Course angle to remember: Rochelle Milnes hits the frame more than half the time at Gawler (8 placings from 14 rides). When she turns up with a runner that has map advantage, she’s worth upgrading next time.

Keep an eye on how the 1647m race is ridden: if the on-pace runners keep kicking all day, it’s a pattern worth following into the next Gawler meeting.
