Pinjarra Racing Tips 20 Aug 2026 — can Pike go 3-for-3?
Pinjarra Racing Tips 20 Aug 2026 — can Pike go 3-for-3?
There’s a simple question that makes this Pinjarra card fun: when William Pike turns up at this track, do you treat it like a hint or a headline? He rides three of the more obvious chances across the meeting, and Pinjarra is one of those circuits where positioning and intent matter because the straight doesn’t forgive a bad run. I’ve gone through the fields with that in mind, but I’m not blindly following the white cap either, because a couple of these races look like they’ll be won by the horse that gets the right shape rather than the biggest name.
You’ve got five races on turf, plenty of maiden form that’s still “in-progress”, and one handicap where a genuine on-pace runner can make it hurt. These Pinjarra racing tips are written to save you the grind: what I think wins, what can beat it, and how I’d actually bet it (or not).
Pinjarra — the setup
Going info hasn’t been supplied in the card, so I’m treating this as a standard Pinjarra turf day and leaning on map, gates, and proven competence at the circuit rather than pretending we know how it’s playing.

Course form among today’s horses is mostly thin. A lot of these runners have one or two Pinjarra starts, which is a data point, not a trend. The one place where the numbers do mean something is the rider pool: Pike’s Pinjarra record is serious volume and serious strike.
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| W Pike | 77 | 25 | 49 | 32.47 | 63.64 |
| C Johnston-Porter | 79 | 11 | 31 | 13.92 | 39.24 |
| Lucy Fiore | 83 | 10 | 36 | 12.05 | 43.37 |
Trainer-wise, you’ve got a couple of yards worth respecting at this course, and they’ve got enough volume here that the percentages aren’t fluff.
| Trainer | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A G Durrant | 23 | 6 | 14 | 26.09 | 60.87 |
| G & A Williams | 31 | 7 | 15 | 22.58 | 48.39 |
| D T Mcauliffe | 37 | 4 | 13 | 10.81 | 35.14 |
Race-by-race Pinjarra predictions
Race 1: Mandurah Vehicle Inspections Mdn — 13:17, 2201m
Sin City Boy is the one I want in the staying maiden because he looks like the horse most likely to get a clean, economical trip and actually see it out. Gate 2 over 2201m at Pinjarra matters: you’re not forced into the early wrestle, and you can land in the first four without spending petrol.
He isn’t some boom talent, but he keeps turning up and his recent run profile says he belongs around the finish. Over the last 15 months he’s hit the frame in 3 of 6 runs, which is solid for this level, and his two starts at Pinjarra include a placing, so the track doesn’t appear to beat him up. This is a race where a lot of them have had chances, and I’m happy to side with the one who can hold a spot and keep rolling.
The danger is By God He Is. Two starts, Pike goes on, and you can make a case that he simply improves with more ground and more experience. The knock is barrier 5 with a light resume: if he drifts back and they crawl, he’s going to need to be better than a maiden with a “00” next to his name.
Staking: Win bet Sin City Boy. Small saver win By God He Is if the market gifts you a price.
Race 2: Western Racepix Mdn — 13:57, 1422m
Here’s the puzzle: do you take the proven two-start horse who’s already shown he can find the line, or do you take the Pike newcomer with upside and guess? I’m sticking with the proven one. Rocktex has only had two goes, but he’s done enough to say he’s up to a Pinjarra maiden and he draws 7 which is workable if he’s got any early toe.
In a small-data world, I’ll take the simple signal: he’s placed in both his career runs so far (2 from 2 for placings), and that’s often the profile of a maiden about to stop being a maiden. The stable isn’t one that needs to manufacture results either. If he can sit just off the speed rather than spotting them a start, he should get his shot.
Cassandra is the obvious danger because first starters from the Williams camp with Pike booked are rarely here for fitness. The booking alone tells you they expect her to be competitive straight away. From gate 9 she probably needs to go back and swoop, so she’s more map dependent than Rocktex.
Staking: Win bet Rocktex. Exacta saver Rocktex, Cassandra.
Race 3: State Wide Turf Services Mdn — 14:34, 1531m
The market will likely try to bully you into the Pike ride, and this time I’m fine with it because Tag Time looks like the right horse anyway. He’s been circling a win (4342), and the combination of gate 4 and Pike at Pinjarra is about as straightforward as it gets: land close, don’t panic, peel at the right time.
There’s also a sneaky “this track suits” angle. Tag Time doesn’t have enough Pinjarra starts to call him anything, but he’s in the one yard on the day that keeps producing winners here: G and A Williams have 7 wins from 31 runners at Pinjarra, and they place just under half their team here. That’s a meaningful sample, and it’s why I’m happy to trust their placement in a big maiden field.
The one that can spoil it is About Turn from gate 1. You don’t need to oversell it: barrier 1 at 1531m is a weapon if he uses it. He’s also been to Pinjarra three times and placed twice, so he’s comfortable around the circuit and can absolutely pinch this with the right ride.
Staking: Tag Time to win. If you’re playing multiples, include About Turn as the saver anchor.
Race 4: Tabtouch Download Today Mdn — 15:08, 1750m
This is the best betting race on the card because the profile is clearer than the average maiden. Trickster has the upside, the map, and the rider. He’s a three-year-old against older maidens, he draws 7, and Pike takes the steering wheel. If he gets even a neutral tempo, he can control his own destiny from the 600m.
What sells it for me is that he’s already showing up on the page without winning yet: form line 203, and over his last 15 months he’s placed in 2 of 3 runs. That’s not a promise, but it’s enough to trust he’ll be around the money again. Add the stable angle and it strengthens further: A G Durrant wins better than one in four runners at Pinjarra (6 from 23) and hits the frame six out of ten. That’s exactly the sort of strike you want when you’re betting maidens with confidence.
Atsui Haru is the danger because he’s already shown he can run a race (62), and he gets a big weight pull at 111.3. If he lands one-out one-back and Trickster has to circle them, the light weight horse becomes a real nuisance late.
Staking: Win bet Trickster. If you want insurance, save on Atsui Haru each-way.

Race 5: Electrical Consultancy Wa Hcp (C5) — 15:43, 1750m
The handicap is the race where you can actually build a story around pressure, and I’m backing the horse who can make his own luck. Late Arrival looks like the most reliable on-paper runner and the most likely to get the race run to suit him. His recent form is 327331 and he carries top weight, but he’s a genuine doer rather than a flattering type.
There’s also a Pinjarra-specific comfort factor without pretending it’s a long-term trend: he’s been here twice and placed both times. That tells you he handles the trip to this venue and the way the races are run here. Add the broader recent record and it’s hard to knock: over the last 15 months he’s won 1 of 6 and placed 5 times, which is the kind of consistency you can bet into in a Class 5.
The main danger is Rosie Can Run, who arrives with her own confidence line (322331). She’s also been to Pinjarra twice and placed both times, so she won’t be overawed. If Late Arrival gets softened up early from gate 9, Rosie Can Run can be the one stalking and pouncing.
Staking: Win bet Late Arrival. Quinella with Rosie Can Run if you want to turn the race into a two-horse opinion.
The plays
My staking today is built around one simple belief: you don’t need to overcomplicate Pinjarra when the rider and stable intent lines up with a horse that’s already running to the level.
NAP: Trickster (Race 4, 15:08). He’s the progressive three-year-old in a winnable 1750m maiden, and the Durrant plus Pike combination is exactly the sort of Pinjarra combo you lean into.
Value: Rocktex (Race 2, 13:57). Still a maiden, but he’s already placed in both runs and this is the kind of race that often falls to the horse who’s learned how to compete.
Banker for multis: Tag Time (Race 3, 14:34). The Williams yard does plenty right at this track, Pike should have him in the right spot from gate 4, and the form says he’s ready to break through.
Each-way angle: Atsui Haru (Race 4). The lightweight profile makes sense if the tempo turns it into a sprint home and the favourite has to do work.
Course angle worth keeping: when Durrant and Pike line up at Pinjarra, you don’t need excuses, you need a reason to bet against them.
