Sale Racing Tips 9 July 2026 — is Waller the cheat code?

There are meetings where you’re hunting one opinion in a sea of noise. Then there’s Sale today, where one stable keeps popping up like the answer key at the back of the book. C J Waller brings a stack of runners and, at this track, he doesn’t just “go okay” either. From a small but meaningful sample at Sale, he’s landed 3 wins and 6 placings from 7 runners. That’s not a vibe, that’s a pattern.

We’ve got four races on the turf, a stack of maidens, and a card that’s going to be decided by which lightly raced types can hold a spot and quicken when the pressure comes. These Sale racing tips are written the way you’d talk it through with a mate: who I want to be with early, where the danger sits, and which races I’m happy to simply watch and learn from.

Sale — the setup

It’s a turf meeting at Sale, and the big thing with this card is how little true “Sale specialist” evidence we actually have among the horses. Most of them have one or two goes here, which is a data point, not a lifestyle. So I’m leaning more on barriers, the way these races look like being run, and which stables and riders repeatedly convert opportunities at this venue.

Two connection angles matter here:

  • C J Waller: 7 runners at Sale for 3 wins and 6 placings (enough volume to respect).
  • Ben, Will & JD Hayes: they’re here all the time (47 runners), and while the strike rate is more modest (7 wins, 19 placings), the volume tells you they place horses to win races here rather than sightsee.

Among the riders with proper Sale volume, a few keep landing in the money often enough to matter. Jye McNeil and Lachlan Neindorf are the two I keep wanting on my side, because they turn “reasonable maps” into “winning rides”.

Race-by-race Sale predictions

Race 1: Ladbrokes Hosted Pots Mdn Plate — 13:00, 1327m

The puzzle here is simple: do you trust the exposed form, or do you assume the best horse is one of the Waller first starters you haven’t seen yet? I’m siding with the proven runner and the soft map.

Contarini (gate 1, Jye McNeil) gets my vote. He’s already shown enough to run third, and that inside draw over 1327m matters because it lets McNeil hold a spot without spending petrol. McNeil’s Sale record is strong over proper volume, and when you’re dealing with 2YOs stepping up and learning on the job, I want the rider who makes fewer mistakes than the kids around him.

The main threat is stablemate Zouvolt (gate 6, Fred Kersley) purely because Waller’s Sale numbers are excellent and this looks a deliberate little team attack. Kersley has a solid Sale record too, and he’ll have options from the middle draw.

What about Cybersecurity (gate 9)? He ran third as well, and that’s obviously competitive form, but he’s drawn to do a bit more work early than Contarini. In a race where a few will over-race or get lost, I’d rather be saving ground.

Staking: Win bet Contarini. Exacta saver Contarini with Zouvolt if you want a bit of cover.

Race 2: Ladbrokes Big Bets Copy Now Mdn Plate — 13:30, 1108m

I’m coming at this one through the contender: Master Taj looks like a maiden who keeps knocking because he keeps finding a way to be in the finish. His form reads 2-3-2, and that’s exactly the profile I want in a short-course maiden at Sale. He’s drawn gate 3, Bowditch can be positive without being silly, and if they crawl at any point, he’s the one who can hold a spot and then sprint.

The danger is Divine Bellini. The form line is messy early, but she’s improved into it, and the Hayes yard has the volume at Sale to take seriously. The question is the draw (10): you don’t want to be making a big looping run at 1108m unless the pace collapses.

For a bit of value, Canny Miss (gate 12) is the one that can ruin your day if she’s simply better than these. She ran second last time, so she’s in form, but she’s drawn to need luck and timing.

Staking: Win bet Master Taj. Small saver on Divine Bellini if the market overreacts and pushes her out to a backable each-way price.

Race 3: Ladbrokes Mega Multi Mdn Plate — 14:00, 1563m

This is the best betting race on the card because there’s one runner who keeps doing everything right except win. And that’s a good problem to have in a maiden.

Jimmy Beans (gate 3) has gone 2-2-2 and finally draws to control his own story. From that low draw he can land close enough that he doesn’t need the race to fall apart, and J Mott can keep it uncomplicated. If you’re ever going to back a “professional maiden”, you back it when it gets a map like this.

The obvious danger is French Gift (gate 2, Damien Thornton). He has the right stable, he has the right draw, and Thornton’s strike rate at Sale is strong enough over real volume to trust him making the right call mid-race. If French Gift gets first crack while Jimmy Beans is pocketed, it can flip quickly.

I’m happy to take on Gold Nugget despite being one of the few with multiple Sale runs, because those three course starts haven’t produced a placing, and his recent form doesn’t scream “today’s the day”.

Staking: Strong win bet Jimmy Beans. Quinella saver Jimmy Beans with French Gift.

Race 4: Ladbrokes Popular Srm Mdn Plate — 14:30, 1909m

The market usually gets seduced by a flashy stable in these mid-distance maidens, but this one looks more like a grind. I want the horse who keeps turning up and putting itself in the finish, because this trip exposes the pretenders.

Angel’s Gathering is the one I want on top. The form line (733362) tells you he’s been right there for a while, and over 1909m that consistency matters more than a single spike run. He’s drawn wide (9), so Sugawara will need to get him into a rhythm early and not be posted, but if he finds a spot midfield with cover, he gets his chance to outstay them.

The danger is Steal Away (gate 1, Jye McNeil). He’s drawn to get every favour, and McNeil at Sale hits the frame more often than not. If this turns into a sit-sprint and the leader gets away with a breather, the rail and the ride can beat my pick.

Shezous (gate 4) is the “what if?” runner. Busuttin and Young don’t have a strong Sale strike rate from their overall volume, but they can still land one when the placement is right. She’s lightly exposed and could jump forward second-up in this sort of race.

Staking: Each-way Angel’s Gathering (because the map gives him a few ways to land in the top three). Saver win Steal Away if you’re playing more defensively.

The plays

If you only bet one race at Sale, I’d keep it clean and stick with the horse who keeps forcing himself into the finish. NAP: Jimmy Beans (Race 3, 14:00). The gate (3) finally puts him in control, and the 2-2-2 profile says he’s ready to stop being a story and start being a winner.

Value: Angel’s Gathering each-way (Race 4, 14:30). This trip rewards the runner who sustains a run, and his string of placings reads like a horse begging for 1900m.

Banker for multis: Master Taj to run a place (Race 2, 13:30). Consistent form, soft draw, and the kind of race where position beats raw talent.

Course angle to keep using: Waller at Sale. Seven runners isn’t a lifetime, but it’s enough evidence to treat his placement here with respect. When he turns up with multiple chances in the same race, he’s not guessing.

Next time you see McNeil drawn barrier 1 or 2 in a Sale maiden, watch how often he turns it into a rail-run clinic. It’s a repeatable edge.
