Gosford Racing Tips 9 July 2026 — can Zac Lloyd run the table?
Gosford racing tips: the rider angle you can actually trust
If you only take one thing into this Gosford meeting, take this: Zac Lloyd rides this track like he owns it. Thirteen rides here for four wins and he lands in the money 10 times. That is proper, repeatable volume too, not a one hit wonder. When you’ve got a young rider who times the bend and the short straight as well as he does, it changes how you price races, especially the ones where the map looks messy on paper.
We’ve only got four races on the card, all on the turf, and it’s a program packed with maidens. That means you want to lean hard on stable intent, barriers, and which jockeys consistently make good decisions when the pressure goes on. I’ve tried to keep these Gosford racing tips practical: who I’d back, who I’d save on, and where I’m happy to sit on my hands.
Gosford — the setup
Course form is pretty thin across the actual runners we’ve got in these four races. Outside a couple of older horses, most of today’s fields are made up of lightly raced types or debutants, so you treat any 1 or 2 run “record” here as a note, not a trend.
What is worth leaning on is the jockey layer. Lloyd is the obvious one, and Kerrin McEvoy also holds up well at Gosford with 11 rides for three wins. If you’re the sort of punter who likes one simple rule, it’s this: in these provincial maidens, I’d rather be with the rider who keeps getting into the right spot at this track than guess which unraced horse is ready to win first go.

- Mates Mode
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zac Lloyd | 13 | 4 | 10 | 30.77 | 76.92 |
| K McEvoy | 11 | 3 | 5 | 27.27 | 45.45 |
| K S Latham | 19 | 4 | 11 | 21.05 | 57.89 |
Trainer-wise, Matthew Smith brings multiple runners (three across the four races), and he’s had enough Gosford volume to take seriously: 26 starters here for three wins and nine placings. It’s not a smash and grab record, but it does tell you his horses generally turn up and run honestly at this venue.
Race-by-race
Race 1: Eagles Plumbing Plus Super Mdn Plate — 12:55, 1750m
The first is a staying maiden by Gosford standards, and I want a horse who can hold a spot and grind, not one who needs a turn of foot off a crawl. Royal And Ready looks the most straightforward bet. Gate 1 gives Zac Lloyd the sort of map advantage he converts into results here, and the horse has at least hinted at ability with a couple of okay runs (6 then 3) without being knocked around.
The danger is Rouladen, simply because the profile screams “ready to win a maiden”: second up from a 2nd last start (form 9-2), drawn to get cover (gate 2), and with Jean Van Overmeire, who is reliable enough around Gosford to keep you honest. I’m not pretending one recent placing is a trend, but it does tell you they’ve found the right level.
I’m happy taking on the sexy stable name at likely short odds. Audaciously Frank (Waterhouse and Bott) has ability, but from gate 5 over 1750m I’d rather he proved he can land in the right spot and finish it off.
Staking: Win bet Royal And Ready. Saver quinella with Rouladen if you like a bit of cover in the first.
Race 2: The Entrance Leagues Club Mdn Plate — 13:35, 1203m
This is the race where you can get sucked into guessing with the two year olds, so I’m going the other way: give me the one with a bit of exposed form and a friendly draw. World Wide fits that. Form 3-2-4 says he’s been in the race often enough, and barrier 1 lets Molly Bourke either hold the fence behind speed or take luck out of it and lead if nothing else wants the job.
The obvious threat is King Of The Top. He’s only had the one start and ran 3rd, and Kerrin McEvoy is not turning up to Gosford midweek to get it wrong. From gate 6 he probably has to do a touch more work than my selection, but if the race turns into a dash from the 400m, he can be the one with the best last 200m.
I also respect the Pride stable runner Noble Pride improving second go after an initial 7th. But with so many lightly raced horses, you don’t want to be having huge bets unless you’ve got a strong map read or a strong market edge, and we don’t have odds for that today.
Staking: Win bet World Wide. Small saver win King Of The Top if you want a second bullet.
Race 3: Brisbane Waters Glass (Bm64) — 14:10, 1203m
The best betting race on the card because it’s not a complete guessing game. There’s exposed form, there are weights to interrogate, and there’s a horse who looks ready to peak at this grade. Point Score is the one I want. He’s drawn gate 2, carries 130.0, and his recent form (35-643) reads like a horse who keeps finding the line without getting the breaks to finish it off. AJ Calder won’t be giving away starts either. The plan should be simple: land one off the fence, build from the bend, and make them chase.
If you’re hunting for a danger with upside, The Piccolino is the clear one. He’s in genuine form (803511) and gets in light at 123.4. That’s the sort of setup that can turn a provincial BM64 into a “weight wins races” story very quickly. If the leaders overdo it, he’s the one who can stalk and finish.
The other angle that matters here is the jockey: H Van Der Hoven rides Gosford well in a small sample and partners Remember Jack from gate 1. The horse has been off the scene (form 245-), but if he’s forward enough to use that inside draw, he can make it awkward for the closers.

Staking: Win bet Point Score. Saver on The Piccolino if the market pushes him out at all because of stable profile.
Race 4: Brown Commercial Building Provincial Mdn Hcp — 14:45, 1094m
The last is the definition of a tricky maiden handicap: plenty of first starters, a couple of lightly raced types with more to come, and a few older horses who’ve had their chances. I’m leaning to Warm Front because he’s the one who keeps turning up and running to a similar level (form 2425), and he gets Zac Lloyd from barrier 1. In these short-course Gosford races, that combination can be worth a length before the gates even open.
The main danger is Eastern Beauty. She’s only had two starts and has gone 9 then 2, which is exactly the kind of second up jump you want to see. Kerrin McEvoy taking the ride is another tick. From gate 4 she gets options, and if she’s got any tactical speed she can sit outside Warm Front and outsprint him late.
Sammy The Bull is your place play if you’re allergic to taking short odds in a maiden. He’s placed in both Gosford visits, which isn’t enough to call him a track horse, but it does tell you he handles the circuit. The issue is he keeps finding one or two better and the recent form line (0-33358) says he might be more reliable for the minors than as a win betting proposition.
Staking: Win bet Warm Front. Exacta box Warm Front and Eastern Beauty if you want to play the race without overthinking the debutants. Small each-way Sammy The Bull for the patient punter.
The plays
NAP: Point Score (Race 3, 14:10). This is the one race where the form feels honest and the map is kind. Gate 2 and a profile that says he’s close enough to win without needing luck to fall perfectly.
Value: The Piccolino (Race 3, 14:10). Light weight, proper recent winning form, and he’s the type who can be underbet if punters get distracted by topweight names.
Banker for multis: Warm Front (Race 4, 14:45). It’s still a maiden and there are unknowns, but barrier 1 and Zac Lloyd at Gosford is as close as this card gives you to a repeatable edge.
Each-way: Sammy The Bull (Race 4, 14:45). Placed in both Gosford runs, and if the tempo gets silly up front he can roll into the finish again.
Course angle: Build around Zac Lloyd. Thirteen rides here, four wins, and he hits the frame 10 times. If you’re playing Gosford predictions all day, he’s the rider I want beside my money.
Keep an eye on how aggressively Lloyd uses the inside gates in the first two races, because if he’s steering them off the rail early, it’s a strong clue about how the track is playing for the rest of the afternoon.
