Top 5 Coolmore Legacy Stakes winners.
1. More Joyous (2011 & 2012)
It is really hard to split More Joyous and Typhoon Tracy as the best winners of this race since 2000 but the Gai Waterhouse-trained mare sneaks into top spot on the back of her slightly better versatility, as well as her longevity, while we can’t overlook the fact that she is a two-time winner of this race. After her 2012 win in this race, she went on to take out the Doncaster with 57.5kg, just shy of the 58kg that another champion mare, Sunline carted to victory in 2002. The dominant mare of her generation, More Joyous won eight Group 1 races and was the Champion Middle Distance Racehorse in 2012.
2. Typhoon Tracy (2010)
What a champion Typhoon Tracy was. The Peter Moody mare stepped out just 16 times for 10 career wins and was the stable star just before Black Caviar arrived on the scene. Six of her 10 wins were Group 1 races including the 2010 edition of this race as well as the Myer Classic at Flemington in 2009, one of the better space jobs that you will see. Her achievements saw her gain Horse Of The Year honours in 2010. In the Queen Of The Turf in 2010 she put her foot down at the 200m to go on to win by three lengths from Illuminates.
3. Divine Madonna (2007)
A horse that helped establish Mark Kavanagh as a trainer was Divine Madonna and the exciting mare dazzled racegoers with her get back and run on style of racing. She took out the Emirates Stakes in 2006 before winning another three times at Group 1 level in 2007, including this race when she poked out from an awkward spot on the straight to fly home with Glen Boss on board.
4. Forensics (2008)
Forensic was one of the stable stars for Peter Snowden when he was the trainer for the powerful Darley operation and the daughter of Flying Spur had a brief but impressive career, stepping out on 19 occasions for seven wins, including three at Group 1 level. She won this race as a three-year-old when it was run at Warwick Farm in 2008.
5. Alizee (2018)
Alizee is the 2018 winner of the Queen Of The Turf and sneaks into to the top five since 2000 ahead of the likes of Azkadellia and Mnemosyne. The Godolphin mare has picked up a Group race in all of her campaigns except as a two-year-old. Other major victories include the 2017 Flight Stakes (1600m), and the 2019 Futurity Stakes (1400m), while she claimed the Apollo Stakes (1400m) earlier this preparation. She rocketed home from the tail to defeat Prompt Response and Heavens Above in this race in 2018.
