RANVET STAKES BETTING SNAPSHOT

The Ranvet Stakes sees the middle distance gallopers line up at Group 1 level and the reigning Melbourne Cup (3200m) champion, Gold Trip, has been installed as a $4 favourite, just ahead of Mo’Unga at $4.20. 

It is tight at the top with the UK horse, Dubai Honour, at $4.40, while Hinged is in that bracket at the $4.60. Montefilia claimed this race last year and is another in single figures at the $8. Raise You ($19), El Bodegon ($19) and Bankers Choice ($51) round out the field of eight. 

RANVET STAKES FORM ANALYSIS

Great run by Gold Trip first up to go 12.6 lengths faster than standard benchmark in the Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Sandown, finishing runner-up behind Steinem. He produced the best late splits over the last 400m and looks to have come back in good order. He should only improve up in trip and went 17.3 lengths faster than standard in the Melbourne Cup.

Three horses come out of the Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) that was taken out by Anamoe. Mo’unga (3rd), Montefilia (5th) and El Bodegon (12th) are that trio. Mo’unga was second up and settled handy before sticking on well to go 9.1 lengths faster than standard benchmark. Third up last time he flashed home late to run 3rd over the 1800m in the Underwood Stakes but he has not won in more than 18 months and keeps on bumping into one or two that are better. 

Montefilia won at the same stage of her preparation last year and improved seven lengths on benchmark figures when second up in the spring to place 3rd in the Hill Stakes (2000m) behind Cascadian. Hinged is another mare in the race and could only manage 8th in the Coolmore Classic (1500m) against her own sex but produced the fastest last 200m. 

Bankers Choice is worth a bit of thought and went 11 lengths faster than standard when 3rd in the Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington at his most recent start. He probably needs a solid tempo to fire and might not get that here. 

The two that come from overseas are Dubai Honour and Raise You. Dubai Honour has some solid formlines and is not an A-grader overseas but might not need to be against this lot. Raise You probably wants further than the 2000m. 

RANVET STAKES TIPS AND BEST BETS

This looks to be a very tough race and one of the hardest to get a gauge on for the day. Dubai Honour is a two time Group 2 winner for William Haggas, who took Addeybb to victory ahead of Verry Elleegant in a memorable edition of this race in 2020. He is one to keep an eye on in the betting. Of the locals, I loved the way Gold Trip went about it when resuming and he is also proven on the world stage. Best last start benchmark figures and overall figures provide plenty of confidence, while he is now at his second campaign in Australia.
