Gloucester Park Harness Tips December 13 – best bets for Golden Nugget Night
The Golden Nugget (2536m) is the feature race at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
Here is my preview of the main races at Gloucester Park on Golden Nugget Night.
Race 4 – RETRAVISION.COM.AU MS PACE (2130m) – 10:17pm AEDT
Rocknroll Lincoln resumes since finishing second in the Group 2 Pinjarra Cup (2692m) in March. Justin Prentice horses aren’t generally 100 per cent fit when they return to the races and barrier six could be tricky. Prefer to see how he goes.
Speed Man is racing consistently without winning and barrier two could change that if Waylade, another first-up horse, takes a sit. Speed Man was second behind Caviar Star two starts ago. He continues to race outside of the leader and battle away. With a possibility of finding the lead, Speed Man looks the horse to beat.
Our Corelli, Handsandwheels and Vultan Tin all have each-way claims in the race. The latter pair have barriers eight and nine respectively which makes it a little tougher, but they are both racing well enough to win from those draws.
Prediction
Race 5 – RETRAVISION GOLDEN NUGGET (2536m) – 10:45pm AEDT
The biggest 4YO race in Perth is the Golden Nugget. The barrier draw could make this year’s edition one to remember with Patrickthepiranha leading from the inside barrier and last-start Group 1 winner Sangue Reale looking to pounce late.
It was a controversial end to the 4YO Classic two weeks ago with Shockwave initially winning the race but losing it on protest. Shockwave will be out for redemption on Friday night and this horse has been flying this preparation. He has always shown a lot of talent and his three runs in four-year-old company have been great.
Shockwave was fifth at Pinjarra after running a slick 54.1 last half. He then ran third from barrier nine before his protest defeat last time. From barrier 12, he will be driven to come with a barnstorming run late and hoping there is some speed in the early or middle stages of the race.
Patrickthepiranha is a good frontrunner that should take some catching. The amount of pressure sustained could determine his fate in the race.
There are plenty of chances in the race. It is not easy to predict the speed map for the running line horses or the tempo, but someone generally chances their arm in the big races.

Race 6 – RETRAVISION YOUR FUJITSU SPECIALIST MS PACE (2130m) – 11:10pm AEDT
Thereugo can be hit and miss in his races. He should lead from barrier one unless Lindsay Harper feels that too much pressure will be applied and decides to relinquish. In that case, Caviar Star may be able to wrest the lead off him.
Looking at my numbers, Caviar Star is a clear top pick in the race. After adding some human input, I still have him as the top selection in the race ahead of Mighty Conqueror. Caviar Star has barrier three compared to seven and is $7.00 compared to $1.75.
Stuart McDonald showed stablemate reinsman Gary Hall Jnr who was boss on November 29 when defeating Speed Man. On this occasion, Hall Jnr drives up-and-comer American Brave from barrier eight.
This race is much harder than last start for Caviar Star. Not only is Mighty Conqueror in the race, but we also have Bill Haley and American Brave. Im Soxy isn’t out of it either but will need some luck.
Mighty Conqueror will get to the breeze and look to out tough either Thereugo or Caviar Star. Bill Haley and American Brave should be the swoopers here – the latter normally races on-speed but Mighty Conqueror isn’t going to hand up the chair to him.
