Beaudesert Racing Tips 26 June — can the bridesmaid finally win?

Beaudesert Racing Tips 26 June — can the bridesmaid finally win?

Maiden races can be a graveyard for confidence, but this Beaudesert meeting has a proper theme: a couple of horses who keep landing on the podium without getting the photo. The temptation is to keep forgiving them forever. The edge is working out which one has the map and the conditions to turn ‘almost’ into ‘done’.

It’s a compact four-race program on turf, and it reads like a classic country meeting where barrier and intent matter as much as ratings. I’ve leaned into runners with improving profiles, riders who actually ride Beaudesert well, and stables that place horses to win rather than to learn. If you’re short on time, the Race 1 maiden is the best betting race and the rest is more about sensible staking and not getting cute.

You’ll get clear Beaudesert racing tips race-by-race below, plus a quick “where the money goes” section at the end.

Beaudesert — the setup

No track pattern talk without a track report, so I’ll keep it practical: with this many big fields and a couple of awkward draws, your day lives or dies on getting cover early and not spotting them six lengths around the turn.

Course form across today’s fields is pretty thin in the places that matter. Plenty have one visit here and that’s a note, not a narrative.

Jockeys worth respecting here (meaningful sample: 5-plus rides at the track):

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
D L Turner 6 3 6 50% 100%
Boris Thornton 5 0 4 0% 80%
Jaden Lloyd 9 1 4 11% 44%
Archie MC Colm 10 2 3 20% 30%
D Peisley 7 2 3 29% 43%
Tiffani Brooker 5 0 2 0% 40%
S Sheargold 8 0 2 0% 25%
Leah Martyn 6 0 2 0% 33%
Cejay Graham 7 0 2 0% 29%

Trainers with enough runners here to treat the percentages seriously (5-plus runners at the track):

Trainer Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
L J Gough 2 Small sample, so I’m not turning this into a trend. But note: two runners here historically, two wins.
Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald 5 1 3 20% 60%
C J Waller 5 1 2 20% 40%
MS M Brosnan 5 1 4 20% 80%
T J Gollan 9 1 3 11% 33%
Ryan Tyrell 9 2 3 22% 33%

Odds note: no bookmaker odds were available to pull for this meeting at the time of writing, so the staking calls are price-agnostic. If you see a late drift on my main plays, I’m happy to take it.

Race-by-race

Race 1: Tab Mdn Plate — 12:06, 1531m

This is the puzzle: do you keep forgiving Saturdays Girl, or do you take the ‘new run at her’ angle and try to beat her again?

I’m sticking with Saturdays Girl (barrier 18) as the best horse in the race and the best bet on the card, even from the carpark. The form line is screaming consistency: 224342. Over the last 90 days she’s gone around five times for four placings, and her average finish in that stretch sits basically second. That’s not a horse who needs luck to be competitive; that’s a horse who keeps turning up and running to a number.

The obvious issue is the draw. From 18 she either has to punch across early and risk doing work, or snag back and trust the gaps to appear. That’s why I want her ridden positively early, even if it means being three-deep with cover. If they hand up the lead cheaply, she can park and grind them into the ground from the 600m. If they run it like a sit-sprint, she’s vulnerable late to the one with the last crack.

The danger is October Manifesto (barrier 13). He’s the classic ‘maiden about to win’ type: 645-22, and he’s been placed in both runs this prep. In the same 90-day window he’s had two starts for two placings and an average finishing position of second, so he’s landing right there. If he gets a softer run than Saturdays Girl from the gate, he can absolutely turn the tables.

Others I can’t ignore: Waiting For Graham gets barrier 1 and a low weight (122.3) which is tailor-made for a cheap run. Cairo Queen comes off 276-53 and at least looks like she’s trending the right way. I’m happy letting the wide-drawn roughies beat me.

Staking: Win bet Saturdays Girl. If you play exotics, keep it simple: exacta saver with October Manifesto.

Race 2: Book A Raceday Mdn Plate — 12:41, 1203m

The shape screams speed and luck. Big field of three-year-olds, 1203m, and plenty of them have no exposed form. That’s when I default to riders who can win the first 150 metres without cooking the horse, then make one decision late rather than five decisions early.

I’m with Lady Milan (barrier 8) as the pick. She’s had enough racing to know her job without being overexposed, and the profile is honest: 4-0423. That says she’s been learning, then improving, then landing in the finish. Leah Martyn knows this track (six rides here historically) and while she’s not a high-strike-rate rider at Beaudesert, she does enough right to keep you out of trouble.

The danger is Toobloos (barrier 17) because the horse has at least shown something in two career runs (53). The rider angle is the key: Boris Thornton rides Beaudesert well enough to respect, hitting the frame four times from five rides here. From gate 17 he’ll have to make a plan early, but if he finds cover and they overdo it up front, he’s the one I want charging late.

If you want a genuine smoky, Gone By Daylight (barrier 16) has only the one run (3) and carries 119.0. Lightly raced, lightweight, likely to map back and run on. That’s a profile that wins these when the leaders panic and start stopping.

Staking: Small win bet Lady Milan. Saver each-way Toobloos if the price is right. Otherwise, watch and keep your powder dry.

Race 3: Beaudesert Raceday 7 July Plate (C1) — 13:16, 2679m

This is the contrast race: a bunch of out-of-form stayers against a couple who might simply be better suited once the trip goes past “comfort” and into “proper test”.

I’m taking She Can Soar (barrier 2) to control it. The recent form isn’t perfect, but it’s the only runner here who comes in off a last-start win (3-7551), and she gets a soft draw to either lead or camp behind the lead. Ashley Butler is a plus at this track as well, with two rides historically for a win. That’s not a big sample, but it tells you he’s ridden the place and won.

The main danger is Classic Shiraz (barrier 8) because D L Turner on at Beaudesert is a real edge when the sample is strong. Six rides here for three wins and he’s placed every time. That’s rare at any track. Classic Shiraz has also been racing honestly (743183) and looks like he’ll stay. If Turner gets him into a rhythm and the race turns into a sustained run from the 800m, he can out-tough them.

I’m happy risking the topweight types like Montevecchio and Pending List. Montevecchio’s 90-day stats are ugly (11 runs for no wins, average finish around sixth) and Pending List’s form reads like a horse searching for something. At this trip, you can’t fake it.

Staking: Win bet She Can Soar. Save on Classic Shiraz if you want one insurance ticket.

Race 4: Xxxx Hcp (C2) — 13:51, 1804m

The market won’t help you here without prices, so I’m making it simple: back the horse with the map, the momentum, and the right rider for Beaudesert.

Carnegie Hill (barrier 1) is the play. He’s been building: 9-7722. From the inside gate, Archie MC Colm can ride him like a horse who’s ready to win, not a horse who’s hoping to place. Archie has ridden this track plenty (10 rides) and while he doesn’t dominate it, he rides it well enough to trust his judgement when it matters. Carnegie Hill has also placed on his only start at Beaudesert, so we know he handles the circuit.

The danger is Power Of Success (barrier 9). He’s the fitter, more reliable type on paper: 4-71324, and over the last 90 days he’s gone five times for a win and three placings, averaging around the mid-threes. That’s a very solid set of recent numbers for this grade. If he gets the right cart into it and peels at the top of the straight, he can be too strong.

For those hunting value, keep an eye on Gold Merchant (barrier 6, 119.0). He’s not a horse I trust to win often, but he placed on his only Beaudesert run, and the light weight gives him a chance to pinch a placing again if the tempo is solid.

Staking: Win bet Carnegie Hill. Exacta box with Power Of Success if you want a second way to collect.

The plays

If I’m spending money at Beaudesert today, I’m not trying to be a hero across four races. I want one proper bet, one supporting play, and I want the rest to either be small or be left alone.

NAP: Saturdays Girl (Race 1, 12:06). She’s placed four times from her last five, and her average finish in the last 90 days sits basically second. She doesn’t need everything to go right, just a ride that doesn’t turn the wide draw into a self-inflicted defeat.

Banker for multis: She Can Soar (Race 3, 13:16). Last-start winner, good gate, and maps to get first crack at them in a staying race where plenty arrive out of form.

Each-way angle: Toobloos (Race 2, 12:41) if the market forgets him because of the barrier. Boris Thornton keeps putting horses into the frame here, and the horse has already shown he can finish off.

Course angle to keep using: D L Turner at Beaudesert is the rider you upgrade when you can. Six rides here, three wins, and he’s been placed every time. Follow that when he lands on horses with a staying profile.

Next meeting, watch how the wide gates play in the early races, because if the track is letting them swoop, it changes the whole way you should price these big-field maidens.
