BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No.2  CANNY HELL  ($2.70 with bet365)

Locally-trained by Kym Davison, CANNY HELL resumes from a 21-week absence today but boasting strong first-up form, he looks a serious contender in this contest. Last start, the Hellbent gelding came off back-to-back minor placings when he took on city class company and found them far too slick, as he finished down the track in a Class 2 Hcp over 1400m at Rosehill. He was then spelled (August ’23) and returned to work in style, winning a 1000m trial at Wagga with Simon Miller aboard. Miller has ridden the three-year-old in all three career-starts to date and is back at the helm today. He won on debut last preparation and looks set to repeat the dose here after a trial win. Back on home soil, he looks the best of the day.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3:  No.11  COOMOROO LADY  ($4.80 with bet365)

Craig Weeding brings COOMOROO LADY north of the border today and having her second race start today, looks well placed over the mile here to break through. Last start, the well-bred Fiorente filly settled well back in the field and finished strongly when placing fifth in a 1300m Maiden on her home track at Wangaratta. Jake Duffy was aboard that day and has the reins again for this assignment. Fitter for that debut run, the step-up in distance today should be ideal for her (with Melb. Cup winning blood in her veins) and with the small field here, she should be close enough to the speed to stake her claims for victory in the run home.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6:  No.6  TUROAR  ($7 with Ladbrokes)

Victorian galloper, TUROAR lines up here for his second visit to Albury and in career-best form this campaign, looks a serious player at taking home the major prize today. Last start, the Sizzling gelding rang-up career win number two when he clobbered a 12-strong field at Corowa. He missed the jump by a length but still finished best to grab victory by 1.5 lengths in the 1400m event. Now four starts into this preparation, he should be at his peak today as Jake Duffy returns to the saddle after partnering the galloper in seven previous races. He maps to settle near mid-field today and with the speed on up front, he will be there on the turn, ready to pounce. Just a touch of luck and a clear run home should see him fighting out the finish again.
