Balaklava Tips 14/06/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 5 No. 8 IMMEDIATE RESPONSE – ($6)

Jarrod Lynch sent former Queensland mare IMMEDIATE RESPONSE around over 900 metres at Murray Bridge. This was her first start in her adopted state, and Immediate Response did strike a reasonably strong Benchmark 56 race. Sophie Logan let her find her feet early before striking trouble from the top of the straight. Immediate Response was just okay after that in a race where she should’ve finished closer. Raced second-up in that strong Benchmark 58 over 1050 metres here last start. We’ve followed plenty of winners out of that contest, including nailing the winner that day in Saville. Saville has won again since at Murray Bridge while both Big Shaq and Tupoleu each got the job done at Gawler. Sophie just had to hold up for runs from the top of the straight before running home with Saville for second.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 1 No. 6 QUEEN IN THE NORTH – ($3.30)

Ben Price takes the ride on the Richard and Chantelle Jolly trained QUEEN OF THE NORTH as the mare attempts to break her maiden at Balaklava. She wasn’t neaten far from Ballon D’or over 1200m at Gawler recently. Ballon D’or has since run well enough in town that we wrote his name into the #SABlackbookers file. Since chased home Seven Secrets who led to score in sharp time at Gawler. They also ran home a fast last 600 metres where Queen Of The North kept Wally’s West honest to the line. That horse has also won since with the form all around Queen Of The North looking strong.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 3 No. 7 BEACH STREET – ($5.75)

Morphettville trainer Byron Cozamanis has drawn well with BEACH STREET who has put in a couple of handy efforts since resuming. The mare found the front early under Felicity Atkinson before the pace kicked up inside them at Gawler. Atkinson was forced to take hold and travel deep the entire. Beach Street ran a brave race that day over 1200 metres as she stuck on gamely into the straight. Settled just off the speed under Jason Holder on a heavy track while staying to trip at Strathalbyn. It was not an overly deep race, and neither is this. It took Roulette Queen to peel off their backs with cover to nail them while Beach Street held the rest. Holder sticks as Cozamanis keeps her to trip, and Beach Street will only strip fitter again.
