BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No.1  MASTER ORR  ($3.40 with bet365)

Race 5 – 3:43PM CBIS INSURANCE BROKERS RATINGS BAND 0 – 58 Handicap (940 METRES)
Local galloper MASTER ORR is third-up today and looks set for a home-track victory here. Last start, the Master of Design gelding made it consecutive minor placings at Townsville’s Cluden Park track when he finished third in a Class 2 Hcp over 1200m. Down in grade today, he should find this contest a lot easier and has the services of ‘Lethal’ Lacey Morrison who is at the top of her game this season. He draws the outside gate today but in the eight-horse field, that shouldn’t pose a real problem. Fitter for two runs back and facing easier opposition, he looks the testing material in this event.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6:  No.1  STORMY LEGEND  ($2.70 with TAB)

Locally-trained by Steve Massingham, STORMY LEGEND is three starts into this preparation and looks well-placed here for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Not A Single Doubt gelding finally broke through for his Maiden win in a 1200m contest at Townsville. With Nathan Day aboard, he settled mid-field and finished best to grab first prize in the 10-strong field. That was his first start for the Massingham stable and today he gets to see his new home track when he steps out onto the Cannon Park turf. Stepping up in distance here, he has Nathan Day sticking with him and is ideally drawn in gate two for the contest. In a good stable, he looks to have settled in well and should take beating here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.3  BIG FLASH  ($4.60 with Neds)

Local galloper BIG FLASH has found the podium in four of his six runs this time in and with conditions to suit today, looks a serious player in this contest. Last start, the five-year-old gelding came from well back (after a bad start) to grab third prize in a Class 3 over the 950m sprint on this track. He covered his final 600m, 2.9 lengths quicker than benchmark, second-best behind topweight Dark Rebel (who sees Cannon Park for the first time and is yet to see the podium over the 1250m trip). Trainer, Scott Cooper, removes the blinkers for today’s assignment as Nathan Day takes the reins for his first ride on the gelding. He gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to settle right behind the speed. With a trouble-free run here, he can give this a real shake today.
