BEST BET 🏆

Race 8:  No.14  LAST CHANCE SALOON

The David Vandyke-trained LAST CHANCE SALOON has shown plenty of consistency by finishing in the top-two at his past seven starts and at the weights here, looks primed to continue with that trend in this contest. Last start, the Maurice gelding took on Class 2 company over 1400m with Michael Rodd in the saddle and she beat them home comfortably, winning by a length on the line. She steps up to the mile here and drops 3kgs for the event with Rodd steering the ship again. She is ideally drawn in gate two for her Doomben debut where she maps to settle mid-field and a clear run to the line should see her playing a major role in the outcome here.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6:  No.8  DAMO DAYZ

Tony Gollan saddles-up three here who all dominate the market as we run with DAMO DAYZ who is unbeaten in two starts and second-up here looks the one to beat again. Last start, the Cable Bay gelding was resuming off a 10-month absence and showing no signs of fatigue, proved too strong in a Class 1 Hcp over 1200m at Eagle Farm. He came from mid-field that day and was too good in the run home. With Ryan Maloney opting for the ride on the stablemate (John Rambo), we lose nothing in talent as James Orman takes the reins for this assignment. He gets the gun-run from gate one and a trouble-free run here should see him in the finish.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.11  CRAZY TRAIN

The Matt Dunn-trained CRAZY TRAIN has a liking to the Doomben track and third-up here, is major player for the big prize. Last start, the Bull Point mare fared well when she beat all but one home in a BM78 over 1200m at Eagle Farm. They sent her out a $21 chance and she came within half a length of stealing it that day. Andrew Mallyon has been aboard since her return to work and remains the pilot again today. The six-year-old has collected minor prize money in all five third-up appearances to date and already a track and distance winner, she looks a serious threat to her rivals in this contest. There are no double-figure odds on offer here but she still looks well worth an investment.
