BEST BET 🏆

Race 7:  No.5  KAPSALI

The Brett Dodson-trained KAPSALI has been in great touch this time in and at his peak today, will take some beating. Last start, the well-bred More Than Ready gelding drifted back at the start and when they sprinted, he was too far back to make an impression in the run home, finishing just behind the placegetters in the Open Hcp, here over 1635m. Luke Rolls was aboard that day and has the reins again for this assignment. He does no early work from gate two but will have to keep in touch with them today as he maps to settle in the back half of the field. Fitter for three runs back now and already a two-time winner at the track, he can bounce back here at (currently) good each-way odds.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 9:  No.4  BERTINELLI

The Matt Dunn-trained BERTINELLI is third-up today and has a resume that is attractive enough to see her in the finish in this contest. Last start, the Snitzel filly was second-up and showed a ton of improvement when she beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp, here over 1030m. She blew like the wind in the betting that day ($5-$12) but finished strongly to claim that second prize. She meets similar company here as Matty McGuren returns for his third ride on the filly. She draws nicely in gate five and maps to be parked right behind the speed. Already a winner when third-up and sporting a tongue tie today for the first time, she can get the job done at good odds.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 3:  No.3  BETTER THAN BOOZE

Now based on the Gold Coast, BETTER THAN BOOZE has been pounding on the door for a change of luck and it just might happen for him today. Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding came off four-straight minor placings when he finished fifth with his first look at the Gold Coast synthetic track. He drew the outside gate (8) that day in Class 2 company and burnt a lot of early fuel to cross and sit outside the leader. He ran out of gas in the run home after a hard run. Down sharply in grade and facing country class gallopers here, he also has a new pilot with apprentice, Amy Graham taking the reins today. With a lot of early speed here, he maps to take a sit behind the front-runners. Already placed twice in two starts here, he can figure in this contest and looks great value in this line up and well worth an each-way ticket today.
