BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No.3  LOCKDOWN LAD

Stephen Jones saddles-up LOCKDOWN LAD here who is screaming out for his first win and at his peak this time in, it can all happen today. Last start, the frustration continued for Jones as the Exosphere gelding made it six minor placings (from 11 starts) when he took home third prize in a Dubbo Maiden over 1100m. Trying to lead all the way, he fought like a caged tiger in the run home, only to be grabbed by two swoopers right on the line. Four horses from that event have since gone on to win. Jones has brought in the big guns today as Aaron Bullock is booked for this assignment. He maps to set the pace again (from gate seven) and super fit after those three runs back, he can get the job done today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4:  No.2  SOCIAL OUTCAST

The Cody Morgan-trained SOCIAL OUTCAST is three starts back from a six-month break and looks set for back-to-back wins today. Last start, the Pariah gelding made it third time lucky when he destroyed a Class 1 field over the mile at Coonabarabran when he put four lengths on them on a Heavy 8 that day. From the outside gate (10), he crossed to lead them on settling but was pressured before the turn. He looked gone as they swung, but he grew another leg and left them to fight out the minors in the end. Mitch Stapleford is the new pilot today as the four-year-old gets the gun-run from gate and maps to settle jut behind the early speed. This looks no harder and at his peak today, he will take beating again.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6:  No.4  ARDONAUGH

One for the value-minded punters here is the Ray Hartley-trained ARDONAUGH who has hit the ground running this preparation and looks way overs today. Last start, the Press Statement mare came off her maiden win at Grafton when she came within a whisker of going back-to-back at Wellington. Ash Morgan had her box-seating on settling and after taking over in the run home, she was challenged and then ‘out-bobbed’ right on the post, leaving her with second prize on the day. Morgan remains in the saddle today with the four-year-old looking to be box seating again (after jumping form gate six). At her peak after three runs in, a trouble-free run here could see her there at the finish again and at (currently) double-figure odds, she is well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
