BEST BET 🏆
Race 6: No.3 VOYAGE SAMURAI
The Frankie Lor-trained VOYAGE SAMURAI has done enough at his first two starts to suggest he will take a ton of beating in this contest. Last start, the Dissident four-year-old came off a debut win, here in Class 4 company over 1400m when he beat all but one home in similar company again over this track and distance. Derek Leung was aboard for both events and has returned from a stint in Japan to partner the galloper here again. He should strip even fitter after those two runs and has drawn ideally in gate four today where he is expected to look for cover (after being caught outside the leader last start with no cover). With the race run to suit, he looks the one to beat here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.4 SUPERB KID
The Francis Lui-trained SUPERB KID has found some form of late and looks well placed here to bring up his second win this time in. Last start, the well-bred Sebring gelding came off a second-straight podium finish where he just missed the trifecta, taking home fourth prize in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1400m. Sitting mid-field (on the fence), he straightened looking for a gap and was severely checked at the 300m mark, forcing Karis Teetan to stop riding him. Once he re-balanced, although the winning chance had gone, he still hit the line strongly and was unlucky not to finish third in the event. The in-form Zac Purton is the new pilot today and from gate six, maps to settle in a similar position here, on the fence with cover. Just a little luck in the run home and he should be there at the finish fighting it out for the gold medal today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 10: No.7 JAMES TAK
Benno Yung saddles-up JAMES TAK here who is high-flying after five race starts to date and looks ideally placed here to give this contest a real shake today. Last start, the Headwater gelding came off a Class 4 victory here when he stepped-up to Class 3 competition for the first time. With Jerry Chau on board for his third-straight ride, he sat tucked behind the speed down the straight 1000m run. Passing the 400m mark, Chau pulled him out and from there, went stride for stride but came off second-best on the day, beaten less than half a length across the line. He returns to the 1200m trip today where he gets the gun-run from gate one and has Chau sticking with him. At his peak today, he looks a real winning chance at odds.
