BEST BET 🏆

Race 7:  No.3  ANEMACORE

The Shaun Dwyer-trained ANEMACORE sees the Ipswich track for the first time today and yet to miss a podium finish in five starts, looks set to continue on the journey here. Last start, the Unusual Suspect gelding was fresh off an 18-week spell when he fell just short of victory, beating all but one home in a BM70 Hcp over 1200m on his home track at the Sunshine Coast. On a Heavy 8 that day, he took over soon after straightening and looked home but was grabbed late by a swooper, denying him victory right on the line. Already a winner when second-up, he welcomes back Michael Rodd as the pilot today, after steering him to victory twice previously. The four-year-old will strip fitter for that first-up effort and with a trouble-free run today, he can give this contest a real shake.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 2:  No.1  COLLEAGUES

The David Vandyke-trained COLLEAGUES is second-up today and with all boxes ticked here, he looks set for back-to-back victories in this contest. Last start, the well-bred Reliable Man gelding came off a 19-week absence and took no prisoners as he clobbered his rivals in a BM65 over 1400m on a Heavy 8 at the Sunshine Coast. Ryan Maloney had his tenth ride on the five-year-old that day and after settling one out, one back, he finished too strong on his fresh legs and put two lengths on them over the line. He draws wide here (gate 11) and may have to settle behind the speed today as Maloney sticks with him for this assignment. Already a winner when second-up and at the track and distance, he should give us a bold sight today.

Race 6:  No.2  I AM TAKINGTHELOT

Tony Gollan saddles-up I AM TAKINGTHELOT here who is third-up today and should be ready to strike. Last start, the I Am Invincible mare finished mid-field (beaten less than two lengths) in a Class 3, here over 1200m. She looked in need of that second hit-out but wasn’t disgraced in the end, finishing as close as she did. Now fitter for those two runs back, James Orman returns for this contest and has a solid record with the four-year-old, riding her to both career-wins to date. Already a winner at the track and distance, she can add to her tally here at odds today.
