Race 5:  No.6  QUADE 

Tony Gollan makes the trip west today with just one runner going around with QUADE who is second-up here and looks set to make his mark in this contest. Last start, the Sidestep gelding resumed off a five-month absence when he covered a lot of ground but still finished well enough to take home third prize in a BM60 over the 1000m sprint at Toowoomba. He fares a lot better here over the extra distance where he is yet to miss a top-three finish in three starts over the 1200m trip. Gollan brings the heavy artillery out today and legs aboard Ryan Maloney for his first ride on the three-year-old. With a trouble-free run here, he can get the job done.

Race 8:  No.7  HEIRESS

Local galloper, HEIRESS finally struck some luck after five starts this preparation and looks well placed here to go on with it today. Last start, the Thronum filly avoided any dramas by leading them on settling and went on to break through for Maiden win, here over 1100m. With Maddie Wishart as the pilot, she held a narrow lead to the turn, then left them to sort out the minor money as she went on to score by more than two lengths that day. Wishart sticks with her today and from gate nine, she maps to cross and be in the first half-dozen on settling. She will be at her peak here and a trouble-free run should see her there at the finish.

Race 2:  No.2  VAN GOUGH

Toowoomba galloper, VAN GOUGH appears to have found his mojo again and at double-figure odds today, looks a good investment in this contest. Two starts back, the Vancouver gelding came off a poor showing at Doomben when he bounced back by beating all but one home in a BM65, here over 2150m. Then last start, he went one better when he clobbered them in a BM60 on his home track over 1890m with Sophie Wilcock in the saddle. He meets similar company here and will most likely lead them here as he jumps from gate two today. Wilcock sticks with him and if he is left alone (in front) to dictate the speed, he could quite easily ‘pinch’ this while he is in this purple patch of good form. He is certainly worth an each-way ticket today.
