Morphettville Tips 04/05/2024

BEST BET 🏆

Race 5 No. 1 SIR KINGSFORD – ($3.30)

Sir Kingsford had the race run to suit first-up on Adelaide Cup Day. 1200m is a bit sharp for him though, and he did finish strongly while lumping some weight. He is a second-up winner and will improve out to the middle distances which had us marking him down as a horse of interest following the Cup Day review. Simply bolted in under Kayla Crowther last start who allowed Sir Kingsford to bowl along out in front over the 1550m journey on the Parks track. Sir Kingsford will be even better suited over the 1800m and will be a force to be reckoned with again on Saturday.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 8 No. 15 COCO SUN – ($4.60)

Tony and Calvin McEvoy head home to South Australia in search of more Group One glory when COCO SUN faces the starter in the South Australian Derby on Saturday. Coco Sun is a big filly who looks capable of taking on plenty of work and should handle the back-up from last week’s Australasian Oaks. Jamie Kah allowed Coco Sun to settle just off the leading division in a fast-run Oaks over 2000m before calling on Coco Sun to chase the winner Vibrant Sun into the straight. Coco Sun just missed out in a three-way photo with the 2500m of the Derby now looking ideal.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 1 No. 1 BADONKIDONK – ($12)

South-East trainer Darryl Dodson trained BADONKIDONK to win third-up at Oakbank Racecourse. That was the horses first win this time in which followed a successful long prep culminating with victory in the Bordertown Cup. Always back and wide over 1800m second-up at Horsham before apprentice rider Emily Pozman brought Badonkidonk with his run out wide into the straight. Finished full of running to score in a slowly-run race at Oakbank with regular rider Kayla Crowther back in the saddle. Badonkidonk found himself a little out of his depth in a BM80 on the Parks track last time and should get the race run to suit on Saturday.
