BEST BET 🏆

Race 2:  No.4  UP TO MISCHIEF

The Ciaron Maher-trained UP TO MISCHIEF resumes off a six-month absence today and having just his second race start, could prove hard to hold out here. Last start, the Written Tycoon filly made her racing debut in a Canberra Maiden over 1200m where she drew the outside gate (10) and Andrew Adkins steered her home to win the event. It was won in the Steward’s Room after the race dur to her copping severe interference for the race leader which stewards decided cost her the race. She’s been in the paddock ever since but has trialled twice at Rosehill recently which should have her ready for a tilt at this contest. Ash Morgan is the new pilot and he is legged aboard today boasting a 38% strike rate with the Maher stable. On fresh legs, she looks the testing material.

Race 4:  No.4  WATER LAD

Ballina trainer, Brett Cavanough makes the nine-hour trek south today with a trio of hopefuls and among them is WATER LAD who lines up here having his second race start and looks well placed to throw down a serious challenge here. Last start, the Headwater gelding did a mighty job to grab second prize when jockey, Louise Day, lost both irons in the process. Braith Nock is the new pilot today and from gate five, should settle near mid-field with cover. Trusting all goes well today, the three-year-old looks set to break through in this contest.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6:  No.7  MIRACLE DAY

Dubbo visitor, MIRACLE DAY is second-up today and looks well placed for back-to-back victories here. Last start, the Street Boss gelding resumed off a lengthy eight-month absence where he showed no mercy in a BM82 Hcp over 1100m on his home track. Jumping from the carpark in gate 13 (of 14), he settled mid-field, racing wide without cover but still ran over them in the run home to cross the line 1.5 lengths clear in the end as a $26 outsider. We won’t be seeing anything like those odds today as apprentice Chelsea Hillier jumps aboard for the first time. After the claim, the six-year-old comes in well at the weights and from gate seven, maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. Already a winner when second-up and in from $11 overnight, he looks a strong chance of franking that first-up effort today.
