Port Lincoln Tips 24/01/2024

BEST BET 🏆

Race 9 No. 10 DIAMONDS ARE – ($7.50)

Ceduna Horsewoman Megan Gillespie must settle for the consolation prize of winning closer to home with last-start Port Lincoln winner DIAMONDS ARE. She sent her horse to the Saturday meeting at Murray Bridge Racecourse with her race being cancelled due to a power outage. We were very keen on the horse at a big price and were very disappointed the race became abandoned. Gillespie had transferred the horse into the care of Gary Searle and Nicole Searle, and Brianna Callanan when Diamonds Are stormed to a Saturday metro win over 1700 metres at Gawler in January last year. Twelve-months on, and Gillespie had set herself up as a live chance of claiming a Saturday metro victory in her own name as a trainer.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7 No. 4 HE’S ABEL – ($4)

Stacey Metcalfe allowed HE’S ABEL to settle up on the speed which was run to a solid tempo here last start. The horse has been racing consistently amongst the placegetters for local trainer Jackie Stoetzer this prep. The punters finally let the horse get out in the market with Stoetzer sending He’s Able out to 1350 metres in a strong BM62. They breathed a sigh of relief in the betting ring as the judge posted the number of Super Sharp on the semaphore board. The well-supported Super Sharp had put in a late dive which seemingly missed He’s Abel who kicked clear into the straight. Coming back slightly in trip should suit with Metcalfe and He’s Abel drawn to be prominent early once again.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8 No. 1 MESSERSCHMITT – ($6)

Rochelle Milnes appears to have unlocked the secret to MESSERSCHMITT with the pair winning three out of their last five races. Settled handy to a good speed when running smart time in his latest two wins over 1000 metres. Messerschmitt drew low for Milnes as he got back out to 1210 metres at Port Lincoln a fortnight ago. He gave us plenty in that race as our Value Bet, settling behind the speed before having a crack into the straight. Messerschmitt was never going to catch the winner before knocking up in the final 50m or so to run second. Coming back to the 1000m suits, the ever consistent Messerschmitt must be considered as an each-way bet again.
