Strathalbyn Tips 19/05/2024

BEST BET 🏆

Race 3 No. 4 GOLD SPY ($3.60)

Local trainer David Jolly retains the services of Ben Price as GOLD SPY attempts to go one better than last start. The horse stays to trip after beginning evenly from an inside gate before pushing up into a handy position. Price continued to give his mount a good run into the race with the favourite Hard Prince caught wide without cover. Price never went around a runner as he guided Gold Spy along the fence to challenge Hard Prince who had raced to the front with momentum. The money was right with Hard Prince proving too good in the run to the line with Price and Gold Spy running second leaving a good gap back to the third-placed horse.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5 No. 2 SANTELMO FUEGO ($4)

Jason Holder sticks with SANTELMO FUEGO who has been racing consistently while also building a good record at Strathalbyn Racecourse. Will find this easier than the Restricted 68 race he contested last start at Morphettville. Holder was forced to take his horse further back than usual after drawing wide with some speed on in the early part. Santelmo Fuego made up notable ground from last into the straight while being inclined to lay-in throughout. Draws a gate on Wednesday in a race where the weights are condensed and should find a good run throughout.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8 No. 11 AGRESSIVE BEE ($9)

We’ve had a hard time catching AGRESSIVE BEE with the little minx getting up on the day we weren’t on. We backed her with a fair bit of confidence at a price when she settled on the speed only to be claimed by Who’s Afraid over 900m at Murray Bridge. Aggressive Bee went up to 1200m at her next start to lead all the way and break her maiden here on her home track. Trainer Shane Oxlade suggested after the race that the extra trip may have helped Aggressive Bee to settle into a better rhythm. Claimed on the line by a good one in Lotza Bubbles over 1100m last start with her first run outside of maiden grade. Agressive Bee appeals as a horse who can make it as a successful benchmark handicap galloper.
