BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.2  SCANTOON

Stuart Kendrick saddles-up SCANTOON here who is second-up and boasting a strong record on wet tracks, looks a serious contender in this contest. Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding had his first start for the Kendrick camp (after transferring from the John Thompson stable) and after 19 weeks off the scene, did well to finish fourth in a BM68 Hcp, here over 1400m. Tahlia Fenlon was the pilot that day and had to do it from gate 10 in the 15-strong field. Already a winner when second-up, Felon steers the ship again and drawn better in gate six today, he looks a serious contender for the major prize.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.3  JOE MAMA

The Lindsay Gough-trained JOE MAMA is third-up today and looks primed for back-to-back victories here. Last start, the Rip Van Winkle gelding was second-up and hit his straps when breaking through for his Maiden win over the mile at Gatton. Carrying 59kgs, he crossed from gate 11 (of 12) and led from barrier to box, crossing the line three lengths clear of them. Georgina Cartwright steers the ship today as he steps up in grade and distance. A dual acceptor today (scratched from race four), he will strip even fitter for two runs back and down in weight, should take catching again.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4:  No.5  PAPAL MISS

The Brisbane-based galloper, PAPAL MISS has done everything but win at her past four starts and down in grade today, looks set to break the drought. Last start, the Honorius mare found one better (again) when she took home second prize in a Class 2 Hcp over the Ipswich mile. Sean Cormack has been on board for her past two outings and sticks with her today. She draws the outside gate here but has plenty of time to cross and find a sit from the 1800 chute. She has a win and six minor placings on wet tracks so conditions today shouldn’t concern the five-year-old. She has found her mojo of late (without winning) and looks set for another big effort in this event.
