Tamworth Tips for Thursday, January 25

Our form expert provides Tamworth tips for today’s horse racing at Tamworth Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.5  TAPA KICK  ($2.20 with Ladbrokes)

Scone galloper, TAPA KICK, is high-flying and unbeaten this time in as he chases the hat-trick in this contest. Last start, the Scissor Kick gelding came off his (first-up) Maiden win when he franked that effort by taking out a stronger BM66 contest over 1500m at Muswellbrook. He sees the Tamworth track for the first time today, meeting similar company and has Aaron Bullock returning for the ride, who is yet to miss a podium finish from four previous rides on the three-year-old. He maps to settle near mid-field from gate six and with a good tempo up front and a trouble-free run, he can make it three-straight today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4:  No.3  ACOTANGO  ($2.65 with BoomBet)

Locally-trained by Cody Morgan, ACOTANGO is three starts into this preparation and returning from the city today, looks better placed here for another victory. Last start, the Spieth gelding came off a big win, here in a BM66 when he took on city class company and wasn’t disgraced when finishing fifth in a Class 3 Hcp over 1100m at Rosehill. He returns to home soil today where he ticks all the boxes and is reunited with Braith Nock (who steered him to that victory two starts back). He does no early work from gate three today and boasts a strong home-track record with three wins and two runner-up finishes from his seven starts here to date. He should find this country Class 3 a little easier and unbeaten at the track and distance, he looks poised to keep that record intact today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.4  SO COUNTRY  ($3.50 with bet365)

Local galloper, SO COUNTRY is third-up today and boasting a strong track record here, should be ready to pounce. Last start, the Shamexpress gelding wasn’t too far away when finishing fifth behind Midnight In Tokyo in a BM75 over 1350m at Doomben. Formerly with the Barry Lockwood camp, he steps out here for his first start under local trainer Wayne Brown where four previous starts at the track have resulted in a win and two runner-up cheques. Jake Pracey-Holmes has his second ride on the six-year-old who jumps from gate two today and maps to settle near the speed. Fitter for two runs back today, he looks in the mix to put another notch on his resume.
