BEST BET 🏆
Race 1: No.11 VAN CHARLOTTE
The Stephen Jones-trained VAN CHARLOTTE has been unlucky at her past two starts and looks set here to bring up her first career-win today. Last start, the Vancouver filly made it consecutive bridesmaid awards when she was nosed-out on the line in a 1400m Maiden at Coonamble. Trying to lead all the way, she was clearly headed inside the final 200m but fought back tenaciously to go down by the barest possible margin on the line. Mitch Stapleford returns to steer the ship again where he brings a 2kg claim which sees the filly carrying just 54kgs today, Fighting fit after three career-runs now, she should prove hard run down here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2: No.8 FANCINATION ALLEY
Rosehill galloper, FACINATION ALLEY has come back in top-shelf form and looks a serious player in this contest. Last start, the Al Maher mare went one better than her first-up effort when she broke through for her maiden win over 1500m at Hawkesbury with Jay Ford at the helm. She settled worse than mid-field but finished over the top of them to score by a length on the line. Brandon Lerena was aboard for that first-up run and returns to steer the ship today. If she can repeat that last-start effort here, she will take a ton of beating in this event.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.10 MOSGIEL DAISY
Locally-trained by Matt Robinson, MOSGIEL DAISY has home-track experience on her side today and looks a big chance of going back-to-back in this contest. Last start, it was a case of third time lucky as the Sebring Sun filly broke through for her maiden win, here over 1300m on a Heavy 8 that day. Apprentice, Mollie Fitzgerald was aboard rode a very patient race, settling the three-year-old back in the field, second-last and eight lengths off the pace. She turned the corner the widest runner and had a tendency to hang-out but still proved too strong for them, going on to win by a length on the line. She draws nicely in gate five today and maps to settle near mid-field with cover. After Fitgerald’s claim, she comes in on the limit with just 55kgs on her back. The forecast Soft 7 looks ideal for her after her last-start win on a heavy track and with a little luck in securing clean air in the run home, she should prove hard to hold out today.
