BEST BET 🏆
Race 3: No.7 DOLLY
Locally-trained by Scott Spackman, DOLLY hasn’t missed a podium finish in four starts to date and third-up today looks a prime contender for the major prize in this contest. Last start, the Xtravagant filly went one better than her first-up effort when she clobbered a 10-strong field in a 1000m Maiden on this track. Sent out a white-hot $1.75 favourite, she missed the start by a length, but recovered quickly to settle second, inside the leader. On the turn, she took control and left the rest to sort out the minors as she raced away to win by more than two lengths. She looks an impressive type with plenty of upside and has Mathew Cahill back in the saddle today. Ideally drawn in gate two, she will take a ton of beating here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.11 CLIFF HOUSE
To the big race of the day and local galloper CLIFF HOUSE is in top-shelf form of late who looks a serious player in this line-up. Last start, the Starcraft gelding came off a good win in Open company at Albury when he franked that effort by going back-to-back, winning the Gundagai Cup here on the Riverside track. Regular rider, Danny Beasley was in pride of place and beat the odds that day to put a space on them in the 1800m event. Carrying 59kgs, he drew wide (gate 10 of 11), and settled near last. He took the turn as the widest runner and on straightening, passed them all a flash and raced away to win by 4.5 lengths on the line. That effort puts him in the ball park today as Beasley remains firmly planted in the saddle for this contest. He has the runs on the board to suggest he can handle Listed company today and represents great value with the bagmen.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.6 WAL’S ANGELS
Nick Olive saddles-up WAL’S ANGELS here who is in career-best form and looks great value in this contest. Last start, the three-year-old came off a hat-trick of wins when he took on city class company for the first time and did well to take home third prize in a Class 3 Hcp over 1400m on a Heavy 8 at Randwick. Tommy Berry rode him that day and being in town for Cup Day, sticks with him for this assignment. He has plenty of early gate speed and maps to settle just behind the speed here. His only start on this track saw him salute (on the Riverside track) in Class 2 company two starts back. There is plenty to like about his chances here and he looks well worth an each-way ticket today.
