Dalby Racing Tips 3 March 2026 — can Taylor’s Rage do it again?

Aaron Hamilton Aaron Hamilton

Dalby — the setup

There’s one thing I can’t unsee on this Dalby card: Taylor’s Rage has already been here once and won. That’s not “course specialist” territory — it’s only one run — but on a track where plenty of these are guessing, I’ll take a horse that’s already answered the question.

We’ve got six races on the turf, and it’s a very “country logic” meeting: a couple of maidens where you’re betting on intent and improvement, then a pair of 1200m handicaps where barrier and early position decide who gets first crack at the race.

Odds weren’t available through the feed at time of writing, so this is pure form, map and placement. Below are my Dalby racing tips for the meeting, written the way you’d talk it through with a mate — what will happen, who benefits, and where I’d actually bet.

Limited course form across today’s fields — most runners have one or two starts here, so I’m treating Dalby records as a clue, not a gospel.

Race-by-race — Dalby racing tips

Race 1: 9 Point Security Mdn Plate — 12:57, 1203m

Hold My Hand is the one I want to be with early. It’s a small 2YO maiden, and when you’ve got this many with either no exposed form or a single run, I’ll side with the runner who’s already shown it can cope with race pressure: the 3 on debut is a proper starting point at this level.

The gate helps too. From barrier 5, K H Zechner can land in the first half without burning petrol, and that matters around 1200m at Dalby where the race can be over by the time the backmarkers finally find clear air. Zechner’s also worth respecting here — he’s ridden at Dalby twice and hit the frame both times, including a win (tiny sample, but it tells you he rides the place well).

The danger is Lonesome Star from gate 1. The form line (54) reads plain, but the inside draw gives her first right to a soft run on-speed or leaders’ back. If this turns into a sit-and-sprint, that map can trump “who’s the best horse?” arguments.

Staking: Win bet Hold My Hand. If you’re playing exotics, include Lonesome Star as the map spoiler.

Race 2: Adam Luck Electrical Mdn Hcp — 13:34, 1531m

Here’s the puzzle: do you want the horse that keeps knocking, or the one that’s just found the winning feeling? I’m leaning to the latter — Summer Ready looks ready to cash the cheque.

That form line (29-223) screams “always there,” and this trip is a sweet spot for that type: long enough that they can build into it, short enough that you don’t need a stayers’ grind. From barrier 4, Frederick Larson can hold a midfield spot with cover and peel when the leaders start to feel it.

The threat is Top Level (4393-3) from gate 1. Luke Dempsey gets every chance to either control the speed or box-seat, and that’s the recipe to beat a horse that’s been living on minor placings.

Staking: Each-way Summer Ready — he’s the safest profile in the race. Small saver win on Top Level if the track is playing leaderish early.

Race 3: Ladbrokes Same Race Multi Hcp (C4) — 14:12, 1531m

This is the best betting race on the card because there’s an actual form edge, not just vibes. Warilla Gorilla comes here in proper winning form (3-4151) and the recent strike-rate backs it up: over the last 90 days he’s had 3 runs for 2 wins. That’s not a cute statistic — that’s a horse turning up to win races.

He draws gate 2, and Ashley Butler can make this simple: forward, find the rail or leaders’ back, and force the rest to chase. In country Class 4 handicaps, the horse that controls position usually controls the cheque.

Kingsland is the danger. The form (53-513) says he’s in the same conversation and Luke Dempsey is a rider who’ll happily roll the dice early if he smells control. If Kingsland crosses and gets Warilla Gorilla pocketed, that’s the one way my pick gets beaten.

Staking: Win bet Warilla Gorilla. If you’re building a multi, this is the banker leg for me.

Race 4: Jtw Cleaning Services Mdn Plate — 14:47, 1203m

I’m starting this one with the map, because it’s a messy maiden and the barriers matter. A lot of these have had their chances, so I want the runner who can land close enough to strike without doing early work: Scion from barrier 4.

He’s not a world-beater, but the recent form has been solid enough (8-272), and his last 90 days reads like a horse who keeps giving you a sight: 3 runs, 2 placings. Hannah Richardson rides him, and while she isn’t a “Dalby specialist” on numbers (only six rides here), she does hit the frame half the time at the track which is more than acceptable at this level.

The big danger is Fred’s Memory (4/563-2). Second-up from that last-start second is the kind of profile that wins these if the favourite runs into traffic. The only issue is we don’t have a named jockey in the feed, so I’m less keen to take short odds if the market crunches.

Staking: Each-way Scion. If Fred’s Memory drifts, I’d save on the win because the last-start “2” is exactly the warning sign you should respect.

Race 5: Bmo Accounts Hcp (55) — 15:27, 1203m

The market (when it appears) will probably try to talk you into something flashier, but I’m sticking with the horse that’s simply in the right spot again: Qickwit.

His form line (442-12) says he’s gone to a new level this prep, and even in a small sample the last 90 days backs up the idea that he’s thriving: 2 runs for 1 win and 2 placings. From barrier 1, Colleen Krahnen can ride the economical race — hold a spot, pinch ground, and make the others come around you.

Crypt de Pin is the obvious danger because it comes off a win (7480-1) and draws to be involved again (gate 9 isn’t pretty, but if they roll along he can blend in). If the tempo is strong — and only once today I’ll say it — a genuine tempo helps him more than it helps Qickwit.

Staking: Win bet Qickwit. If you want insurance, save on Crypt de Pin because the last-start win can carry momentum in these 55s.

Race 6: Warrego Office Choice Hcp (55) — 16:04, 1203m

This is where I’m happy to be a bit firmer. Taylor’s Rage has the right mix of upside and proven Dalby competence: the recent form (436-51) says he’s improved sharply, and he’s won on his only start at Dalby. That’s not a trend — it’s a signal that the track doesn’t beat him.

The other reason I like him is how he maps. From barrier 4, Hannah Richardson can have him stalking the speed rather than relying on a last-to-first miracle. If the leaders overdo it, he’s close enough to pounce; if they crawl, he’s still in the first wave when they sprint.

Quarter Red is the danger from gate 1. He’s been edging closer (46-62) and the inside alley gives him first crack at the right run. If he holds the rail and Taylor’s Rage gets posted three-wide, your Dalby “one-run winner” can suddenly look mortal.

Staking: Win bet Taylor’s Rage. I’d only save on Quarter Red if the track is clearly rewarding the fence and leaders by race six.

Where the money goes

The card isn’t swimming with deep historical edges, so I’m leaning into horses that are either in winning form or map to control their own luck. My Dalby best bets start with Warilla Gorilla in Race 3 (14:12). Two wins from three runs in the last 90 days is exactly the profile you want to build around, and the inside draw lets Butler ride it like a bully.

The value play, if you get a price, is Scion in Race 4 (14:47). He’s not a star, but he keeps running into the finish and his recent 90-day record has him in the placings two-thirds of the time. That’s the kind of runner that wins a country maiden when the flashy ones find trouble.

The safest multi anchor is still Warilla Gorilla, with Taylor’s Rage (Race 6, 16:04) the “course comfort” leg — a previous Dalby win and improving form, without needing a perfect storm to get paid.

For Dalby racing tips going forward, keep an eye on how Hannah Richardson rides this track today — she turns up on multiple live chances and her Dalby record is solid enough to respect when the map suits.

FAQ

What time does racing start at Dalby today?

Dalby kicks off at 12:57 with the 9 Point Security Mdn Plate over 1203m.

Who are the top jockeys at Dalby on today’s numbers?

On meaningful-ish volume, Harrison Shaw stands out: 7 rides at Dalby for 3 wins and 5 placings. Among today’s riders with fewer Dalby rides but a strong return, K H Zechner has placed in both course visits (2 rides).

Which trainers have a Dalby edge today?

Pat W Webster has the most Dalby experience in the trainer data: 6 runners here for 3 placings. Corey & Kylie Geran also have a bit of volume at the track (4 runners), and they bring multiple chances across the day including Global Currency, Blue Chip Girl, Fred’s Memory and Mother Joy.

What are the best bets at Dalby today?

My Dalby predictions lean on two races. The best bet is Warilla Gorilla (Race 3, 14:12) — last-90-days form reads 3 runs for 2 wins and he maps to control the race from gate 2. The other strong play is Taylor’s Rage (Race 6, 16:04), who has won on his only start at Dalby and comes in off a last-start win.

Where can I find the best odds for Dalby races?

Prices weren’t available via the odds feed at publishing time, so shop around closer to jump. Start with the major Australian books and the tote, then compare late market moves once the on-course pattern is clear. If you’re hunting Dalby odds, the key is timing — country markets can shift sharply in the last 10 minutes.
