Moruya Racing Tips 19 June 2026 — is this Vella’s day?

If you’re only having one opinion at Moruya today, make it this: Pierre Boudvillain rides this track like he owns it, and he turns up with a pair that both map to get their chance. That matters at a little country circuit where position wins races and the difference between “in the box seat” and “three wide with cover” is basically your whole bet.

We’ve got three flat races on the turf, all short course sprints or near enough, and most of the fields are light on genuine Moruya experience. That’s fine. It just means I’m leaning harder on the things that travel meeting to meeting: who’s building the right prep, who’s drawn to control their own fate, and which stables are placing horses to win rather than to make up numbers. These Moruya racing tips are written for exactly that: quick, usable reads without you having to dig through every line.

Moruya — the setup

No published going to work with in the card, and with a lot of lightly raced types, I’m treating this as a “race shape first” meeting. The pattern I care about most today is barriers in the 1105m races. If you can hold a spot from a low draw, you’re already halfway to cashing.

Limited course form across today’s fields. Most runners have one or two Moruya starts, so treat any “record here” as a note, not a big edge.

One clean angle we can actually trust at volume is the riding: Pierre Boudvillain has 15 rides at Moruya for 3 wins and 12 placings. That’s not hype, that’s a body of work. He’s the jockey I want when the race turns tactical.

Race-by-race Moruya predictions

Race 1: Mitre 10 Moruya Mdn Plate — 12:10, 1105m

Xtrascent gets me interested straight away because the form reads like a horse that’s been knocking with intent: 2-2-4 in three runs. That’s not “almost” in the vague sense, that’s consistent competitiveness. And from gate 5 he should land in the first half without spending petrol.

The other thing I like is the way this stable and rider combination fits the meeting. Boudvillain doesn’t need to do anything fancy here, just give Xtrascent a clean run and make the field chase from the bend.

The danger is Won For Vicki. She’s been thereabouts (5-2-3) and she’s drawn gate 2, which is the sort of draw that lets an on-pacer pinch cheap sectionals if the outside horses hesitate. She’s also had a Moruya visit already and ran second, so at least she’s seen the track.

What I’m doing: Win bet Xtrascent. Small quinella saver with Won For Vicki if you want insurance against the inside draw controlling the race.

Race 2: Swan Plumbing (Bm58) — 12:45, 1105m

Here’s the market problem I’d expect to see, even without live odds: people will look at the weights and talk themselves into the topweight, then ignore the horse that actually turns up with the right mix of track comfort and current form. I want Selhurst Park right on top.

He’s had two goes at Moruya for a win and another placing. That’s only two runs, so I’m not calling him a specialist, but it does tell you he handles the circuit. Add in the fact he won last start (form line includes that 1), and he profiles as the runner most likely to do the right thing when the pressure comes on late.

The danger is Dubbo Boy, and it’s a serious one. He’s in cracking winning form on paper (2-1-5-4-7-1) and he brings Brodie Loy to town. Loy has only ridden here once, but he won on that ride, and the booking screams intent. Gate 2 is perfect for a 1105m scamper.

This is the best betting race on the card because you can map it with confidence: Selhurst Park should land close enough to strike, and Dubbo Boy should get every favour from the inside alley.

What I’m doing: Win bet Selhurst Park. Exacta box Selhurst Park and Dubbo Boy if you’re playing multiples.

Race 3: Hip Pocket Batemans Bay Mdn Hcp — 13:20, 1312m

This is the puzzle race. Big field, a stack of runners with either thin exposed form or none at all, and barriers that will matter because you don’t want to be doing work over 1312m at Moruya.

I’m with Zougotme because he’s the one who keeps turning up and running into the money without needing everything to go right. The form string 3-6-2-2-4 says he’s competitive in these races, and with Brock Ryan going on, I expect a positive ride: find a spot, keep him rolling, don’t turn it into a stop-start dash that invites bad luck.

My danger is Pariah Time. He’s only had two starts for a pair of honest efforts (4-3), and that profile can jump quickly in maidens when the fitness base goes in. Amy McLucas is also a rider who knows Moruya well enough to make good decisions, and the Beer and Carpenter stable is the one you always want to respect at this track. They’ve had 9 runners here historically for 3 wins and 6 placings, which is plenty of evidence they place them well.

One to keep safe if the price is silly is Mogo Rock. He’s been hanging around the placings often enough elsewhere, and he’s already placed at Moruya on his only visit. From a midfield draw, he just needs luck in running, which is the risk in this sort of race.

What I’m doing: Each-way Zougotme if you’re getting a decent price. If the market has him short in a messy maiden, I’d rather watch and keep the powder dry.

Where the money goes

NAP: Selhurst Park (Race 2, 12:45). Proven at Moruya with a win and a placing from two visits, and he comes in off the right kind of recent form for a BM58.

Value: Zougotme (Race 3, 13:20) each-way. The profile is tough and consistent, and that’s exactly what you want when half the field is still learning how to race.

Banker for multis: Xtrascent (Race 1, 12:10) to run top 3. Three straight competitive maiden runs and a map that should keep him out of trouble.

Each-way play: Won For Vicki (Race 1, 12:10). Inside draw, has already hit the frame at Moruya on her only visit, and the race shape sets up for a handy runner.

Course angle: If you’re building your Moruya best bets around one repeatable edge, follow Pierre Boudvillain. Fifteen rides here with twelve placings tells you he consistently puts horses in the right spots, and that’s gold on small tracks.

Keep an eye on how the inside gates fare in the first two sprints. If gate 1 and 2 are holding up cleanly, the late races at Moruya will be a barrier game, not a closing splits game.
