Newcastle Racing Tips 13 June — can Alnair cash in again?
Newcastle Racing Tips 13 June — can Alnair cash in again?
There’s a certain kind of Newcastle runner I love backing: the one that’s already handled the place, maps to get every chance, and keeps turning up in the finish without needing the stars to align. Alnair fits that brief today. It’s not “track specialist” territory off one visit, but winning a cheque on your only Newcastle start tells you the horse sees the circuit and doesn’t panic when the tempo lifts.
We’ve only got two races on the card in the data set, both maidens, so this is more about reading profiles than pretending we’ve got a decade of hard evidence. You’ll get two clear opinions, the danger in each, and how I’d actually bet it. These Newcastle racing tips lean on barriers, weight setups, and the handful of runners with any Newcastle reference points at all.
Newcastle — the setup
Most horses in these two races are effectively first-timers at the track from a “meaningful sample” point of view. A few have a single Newcastle run, and that’s useful as a note, not a gospel.
For jockeys with proper Newcastle volume today, Mitchell Bell and K S Latham are the two I trust most to consistently put a horse in the right spot. Bell has 40 rides at Newcastle and hits the frame often. Latham has even more exposure again with 51 rides here. That matters in these maidens when the race can be won or lost in a 200 metre patch of positioning.
Trainer-wise, there are a couple of stables that repeatedly turn up and run well at Newcastle, but in these two races specifically, the strongest course angle comes via T J Bartley, who tends to bring horses here ready to compete, and Nacim Dilmi, who has enough Newcastle runners over time to treat it as a real pattern rather than a fluke.

Race-by-race
Race 1: David Nolan- Member Appreciation Midway Mdn Hcp — 11:50, 1531m
The Champion gets me interested because he’s the one in this field that keeps hinting he’s up to winning a race like this without needing a miracle. The form line (5293) reads like a horse that’s been learning, and the important bit is the “3” most recently. That’s a maiden that’s found the finish, not one that’s making up numbers.
He’s also one of the few here with a Newcastle reference point: two runs at the track for one placing. That’s not enough to label him anything, but it’s enough to say he’s handled the venue. From gate 7 he probably has to do a touch of work early, so I want Hutchings to be positive and get him into a rhythm rather than snagging back and praying for luck.
The race shape looks like it could get a bit messy. Billy Bowlegg from barrier 2 is drawn to take a handy spot and can make others chase, while Master Johnny (barrier 1) can hold rail and force runners wide to go around. If they dawdle, it becomes a sprint home and you want the horse that can quicken off the bend.
The danger is Full Of Fun because you’re dealing with an unknown profile and a trainer who does well enough at Newcastle to take seriously. Fabio Martino has three runners at the track for a win and two placings, so when he turns up with a debutant, I don’t treat it like a sighting mission.
Play: Win bet The Champion. Small saver quinella with Full Of Fun if you want cover for the newcomer angle.
Race 2: Bill Round – Member Appreciation Mdn Plate — 12:30, 2067m
The market usually talks itself into the “big name stable equals certainty” in midweek maidens. I’m going the other way here and siding with the horse that looks simplest to ride and hardest to knock out of the placings: Alnair.
He’s been knocking on the door (44-234) and the map helps. Barrier 9 isn’t perfect, but over 2067m at Newcastle you’ve got time to find a spot, and K S Latham is exactly the sort of jockey you want doing that job. He rides Newcastle well over volume, and he’s not the type to burn a stayer early just to win the first 200 metres.
There’s also a neat little Newcastle note: Alnair placed on his only start at this track. Again, one run is only a data point, but for maidens stepping up in trip it’s a reassuring one. Over the last 90 days he’s also been a consistent money horse: three runs for two placings, and an average finishing position of 2.0. That’s as close as you get to “ready to win” without the result already on the page.
I’m saving against Jade Sunset. She’s the one that can beat you if the tempo turns the race into a squeeze from the 600m. She’s been around the mark (6-22953), she’s already placed at Newcastle on her only course visit, and she gets Mitchell Bell, who is one of the most reliable Newcastle riders on the card.
What about the Waller runner Negate? He’s the query horse for me. Two career runs and he may improve sharply as he learns, but I don’t want to take a short price about an inexperienced stayer type drawn to need decisions (barrier 6) in a race where a couple of more seasoned maidens can grind.
Play: Alnair each-way. If you’re multi building, he’s the banker leg from the two races provided.

The plays
NAP: Alnair (Race 2, 12:30). He’s the most dependable profile in the meeting data, he’s been running top-four every start this prep, and the Newcastle experience box is ticked with a placing on his only visit.
Value: The Champion (Race 1, 11:50). A last-start third in a maiden is often the launching pad, and he’s already shown he can place at Newcastle across his two course runs. If the market drifts because punters chase the unknown debutants, I’m happy to take the “known improver.”
Banker for multis: Alnair top 3 or each-way style bets, depending on what your book offers. Three runs in the last 90 days for two placings is the right kind of consistency for a multi leg.
Each-way anchor: Again, Alnair. You can make a strong case he runs a race even if he finds one better.
Course angle to keep: When Bartley brings one to Newcastle, it usually competes. If Jade Sunset runs well again here, that becomes a pattern worth following next time she pops up at this track.
Next meeting at Newcastle, keep an eye on which riders the stables trust to solve awkward barriers over the middle trips, because that’s where a lot of these maidens get decided.
