Taree Racing Tips 3 March 2026 — can Stern Dispute do it again?

There’s one proper “tell” on the Taree card today: Stern Dispute comes back to the same circuit where he’s already won, and he does it in a race where plenty of rivals are still learning how to put a race away. That’s the sort of edge you can actually bet around — even on a country meeting where profiles can be messy and the market often guesses.

We’ve got four races on the program, all on turf, and most of the fields are light on meaningful course history — which means you’re leaning harder on recent trajectory, map, and the few riders who genuinely convert chances here. These Taree racing tips are written the way you’d talk it through with a mate: who I want to be with, who can beat them, and what I’d do with the stake.

Taree — the setup

Limited course form across today’s fields — most runners have one or two starts here, so treat anything like “won on its only start at Taree” as a clue, not a life story.

Where the card does get sharper is in the saddle: Ashley Morgan and A Bullock ride this track like they own it, and they’re both legged onto live chances through the afternoon.

Race-by-race — Taree predictions

Race 1: 12 May Gloucester Cup Mdn Hcp — 14:10, 1094m

Magatama is the one I want to start the day with — not because she’s thrown a stack of figures at us, but because this looks the right kind of maiden to be aggressive in. She’s drawn midfield (gate 5), gets A Bullock — who hits the frame more than four times out of five at Taree from 11 rides — and she’s already shown she can be in the race (single-run form line reads “5”, which is often fine in a country maiden if you’re stepping forward).

The map looks kind: there isn’t an obvious tearaway here, and Bullock’s biggest edge at this track is he doesn’t give away cheap lengths. If Magatama lands one off the speed and builds from the 600m, she doesn’t need to be a star — she just needs to be the first one to turn intent into momentum.

The danger is Farnciful with Ashley Morgan. Morgan wins half his rides at this track (10 rides, 5 wins) and when he’s on a lightly-raced 3yo in a short-course maiden, you respect the “let’s go get it done” intent. Wide-ish gate (8) means he’ll have to make a call early.

Staking: Win bet Magatama. Small saver quinella Magatama/Farnciful if you’re playing exotics.

Race 2: Mvrc Autumn Racing Mdn Plate — 14:45, 1750m

Here’s the puzzle: do you trust the horse who keeps turning up, or the one whose profile says “ready now”? I’m with Emerald Hills. The form is the loudest thing on the page — 31 last two starts — and while it’s only one run at Taree, that visit was a placing. Put simply, she arrives in form and she’s already handled the track once.

There’s a bit to like in the setup too. From gate 3 she should get a cheap run into the race, and with Liberty Smyth riding, you’re not relying on a wild mid-race move; you’re relying on her being within striking range when the 1750m starts to feel like work.

Pear Bellini is the clear danger and probably the safest “runs her race” type: her form line is 3-3533 and she draws perfectly (gate 1). She’s also placed in one of her two Taree starts, so she’s not guessing at the circuit. If the leaders overdo it and it turns into a staying test late, Pear Bellini can grind past you.

Staking: Emerald Hills to win. If you’re a conservative player, save on Pear Bellini as a small win bet (or take a quinella) because she keeps landing in the fight.

Race 3: Sky International Country Boosted Mdn Plate — 15:25, 1422m

This one reads like a race-shape job. There are a few here who’ve had plenty of chances, and that often produces a stop-start tempo — nobody wants to lead, everybody wants cover, and suddenly the horse with the simplest run wins.

I’m backing Our Pappy to get that simplest run. He’s the one drawn to control his own luck (gate 1), he carries a workable 121.2, and he gets Liberty Smyth again — a rider who tends to keep these country races neat rather than complicated. Our Pappy has been to Taree once and finished fourth — not a selling point on its own, but it tells you he’s not walking into an unknown.

The main danger is Too Hard To Find. The form line (02-982) says he’s been around the mark at stages, and the pull in the weights (117.9) is real if the race turns into a sit-and-sprint. If he’s close enough on the bend, he’s the one who can pinch it with a light weight and one late crack.

Staking: Small win bet Our Pappy. This is not a “go hard” maiden — keep it sensible, or make it a watch race if you hate thin form.

Race 4: Get Your 2026 Mvrc Membership Hcp (C1) — 16:05, 1531m

The market won’t miss Piccaderro — it screams “right race”: form 437-12, Ashley Morgan to steer, and a profile that says he’s already made the jump from honest to winning. Even with the awkward draw (11), Morgan is the type of rider who can make a wide gate look like a plan rather than a problem. On a day where his Taree record reads 10 rides for 5 wins and 8 placings, you can trust him to make correct decisions at the pressure points.

But the horse I’m most interested in, from a pure Taree angle, is Stern Dispute. He’s had three runs in the last 90 days and won one, and he’s won on his only start at Taree. That’s not enough to crown him anything, but it is enough to say: when this horse sees this track, he finds something. Gate 9 isn’t perfect, yet A Gibbons is good enough to find cover, and the Lees yard is the one stable on the card with genuine volume at Taree (12 runners for 3 wins and 6 placings historically). That’s not a fluke sample.

The other key piece is weight and race shape. Piccaderro sits on 130kg and has to do some work from out wide; Stern Dispute carries 126.7 and can be ridden with a touch more patience. If they go even slightly too hard early, the horse who can land and finish becomes the bet.

The danger — the one who can spoil both — is Annoint. He’s been edging closer (5543-2) and if the favourites find trouble (wide, covering ground), Annoint is the kind that just keeps coming and makes you pay for getting cute.

Staking: Main play Stern Dispute each-way (because the track win gives him a real anchor). Saver win bet Piccaderro if he’s not a silly price. Add Annoint in trifectas if you’re playing wider.

The plays

NAP: Stern Dispute (Race 4, 16:05). He’s already won on his only go at Taree and he’s the one in the class 1 who brings both current form (3 runs, 1 win last 90 days) and a course tick without needing everything to go perfectly.

Value: Emerald Hills (Race 2, 14:45). Two runs in the last 90 days for a win and a placing is strong current shape, and she’s drawn to get the run of the race at 1750m.

Banker for multis: Piccaderro (Race 4, 16:05). Form says he’s arrived, and Ashley Morgan’s Taree strike-rate is the best on the card with meaningful sample.

Each-way: Pear Bellini (Race 2, 14:45). She just keeps turning up and landing around the money, and barrier 1 lets her run that same race again.

Course angle to keep: When Morgan or Bullock can land midfield with cover at Taree, they turn “nice chances” into wins — and this meeting has them repeatedly sitting on horses with logical maps.

Keep an eye on how Race 1 is ridden from the inside gates — if the rail/track pattern rewards leaders, the late races swing even harder toward the horses drawn to hold a spot without spending petrol.

FAQ — Taree today

What time does racing start at Taree today?

Racing kicks off at 14:10 with the 1094m maiden handicap (Race 1: 12 May Gloucester Cup Mdn Hcp).

Who are the top jockeys at Taree on today’s card?

Ashley Morgan is the standout: 10 rides at Taree for 5 wins and 8 placings. A Bullock is nearly as reliable for punters — 11 rides for 3 wins and 9 placings — which is why I’m keen to be with him early.

Who are the top trainers at Taree among today’s runners?

K A Lees brings the most meaningful course record into this meeting: 12 runners at Taree for 3 winners and 6 placings. That’s why Stern Dispute (Race 4) gets extra respect on top of his “won here before” angle.

What are the best bets at Taree today?

If you want one main bet, I’d build around Stern Dispute in Race 4 (16:05). For the earlier card, Emerald Hills in Race 2 (14:45) looks the cleanest form-and-draw play.

Where can I find the best odds for Taree races?

Prices can move quickly on country meetings. The easiest way is to compare a few bookies side-by-side before you bet. You can also check our latest racing pages here: RacingBase. (Odds weren’t available in the feed at time of writing for this meeting.)
