Werribee Racing Tips 14 May — can the bridesmaids finally cash in?

Werribee, and the one thing I’m trusting today

If you’re having a bet at Werribee today, you’re basically making one call over and over: do you stick with the runners who keep knocking on the door, or do you chase the unknown upside of the lightly raced ones?

Because this card is loaded with nearly horses. The kind that find the line, find trouble, find one better, then rock up again with the same “maiden profile” tattooed on their form. That’s not a criticism either. Maidens get won by the horses that keep turning up in the right races and don’t beat themselves.

So these Werribee racing tips lean into that. Four races on turf, 1200m and 1500m to 1750m, and plenty of runners who look ready to graduate if the race shape lets them. I’ll give you a clear pick in every race, a genuine danger, and what I’d actually do with the money, without pretending a one-run course stat is a life story.

Werribee — the setup

Going and pattern notes are always the last piece of the puzzle, and we don’t have an official going read in the racecards here. What we do have is a day where course form is thin across the board. Most runners have one visit here at best, which means I’m weighting current profiles, gates, and how the races should be run rather than pretending Werribee specialists are everywhere.

One stable worth mentioning because it turns up repeatedly: Ben, Will and JD Hayes saddle multiple runners through the meeting. Their Werribee record sits at 13 runners for one winner and five placings. That’s fine, but it’s not a “they own the place” angle. It just tells you they use the track as a launching pad and they’ll place them to be competitive.

Race-by-race — Werribee predictions

Race 1: Corio Waste Management Mdn Plate — 13:00, 1203m

Gathers No Stone looks the one you can hang your hat on, and it’s not complicated. The horse keeps running into the placings without getting the photo, but that string of seconds and thirds (342343) is the most reliable piece of evidence in this field. From gate 1 with C Newitt</strong}, it should get the run every maiden wants: hold a spot, don’t spend petrol early, and peel at the right time.

The knock is obvious: it hasn’t won yet and it’s had plenty of chances. But today’s line-up doesn’t scream “maiden full of hidden weapons” either. It reads like a race where the horse that puts itself in the fight and keeps finding the line finally gets paid.

The danger is Colt Forty Five</strong}. Zac Spain sticks and the form has depth through multiple preps (226-65). The problem is the map: barrier 11 at 1200m asks you to either snag back and need luck, or roll forward and risk a wide run. If it gets cover, it can absolutely win.

Staking: Win bet Gathers No Stone. Small saver quinella with Colt Forty Five if you want cover for the wide gate story going right.

Race 2: Global Turf Mdn Plate — 13:30, 1203m

Here’s the puzzle: do you want the horse that’s already shown it can run to a placing level, or the one drawn to get the perfect stalk-and-pounce?

I’m siding with Uyuni. The form line is simple but persuasive: 234-2, and it keeps putting itself in the finish. Gate 3 is the big tick in a 1200m maiden, because it lets the rider be positive without being silly. If this race turns into a sprint from the bend, I’d rather be on the horse that can hold a spot and quicken than the one searching for runs.

Wyandra is the danger and probably the one I’d be most annoyed to lose to. The horse is hard fit, it’s been around the mark (4-7223), and it draws 2 so it can land right on Uyuni’s back or hold the rail if it wants. If Wyandra gets first crack and the leader doesn’t come back, that’s your scenario.

A quick word on course dots: Uyuni has placed on its only start at Werribee, and Wyandra comes in without a meaningful course story either. That’s fine. This is mainly about current progression and map.

Staking: Win bet Uyuni. Exacta saver Uyuni and Wyandra if you’re playing exotics, but keep it tight.

Race 3: Just Energy – We Take Care Of All Your Solar Needs Mdn Plate — 14:00, 1531m

The market will probably gravitate to the usual suspects here, but I want the horse with the clearest “next win” profile over this trip. That’s Interrogate.

Four runs, and it’s been there every time (3632). That’s the sort of sequence that tells you the horse is sound, genuine, and ready for the right race rather than a miracle ride. It also gets D W Stackhouse, who rides Werribee well enough to respect. He wins about a third of his rides here and has hit the frame two-thirds of the time from a small sample of three rides, which is not something I’m building a thesis around, but it’s a neat confidence layer.

The danger is King’s Anchor. The run profile (5-2) says it has already found the level, and barrier 10 isn’t a death sentence at 1531m the way it can be in the 1200m races. If it rolls to a spot without working, it can be the one running down Interrogate late.

I’m not ignoring the rest, but a few of these look like they’re either experimenting at the trip or still learning how to finish. Interrogate has already done the learning.

Staking: Win bet Interrogate. If you’re conservative, go win and place rather than getting cute.

Race 4: All Green Nursery Mdn Plate — 14:30, 1750m

This is the betting race for me because the form lines are the most honest. You’re not trying to guess which first starter can gallop; you’re deciding which of the proven types gets the right run.

Meleys is my play. The form has been building (26-322) and it’s earned another chance. It also comes in with a small but useful Werribee note: it placed on its only start at this course. One run isn’t a trend, but it does tell you the track didn’t blunt it. Drawn 2, it should land close enough that the 1750m doesn’t become a track position lottery.

The danger is Best Terms</strong}. It’s been consistent (35-23) and gets John Allen</strong}, who has the kind of volume at Werribee you can actually trust: 17 rides for four wins and eight placings. That’s a proper sample. If Best Terms finds the front or gets the softest run in the first half of the race, it can turn it into a staying sprint and pinch it.

A few others have claims, but they need things to go perfectly. Overcast has ability on 33, but it’s drawn 14 and that’s a decision you’re forced to make early. Go back and need luck, or press on and risk covering ground.

Staking: Win bet Meleys</strong}. Smaller saver on Best Terms</strong} if you’re worried Allen controls it from a sweet spot.

The plays

NAP: Meleys (Race 4, 14:30). Barrier 2 and a form line that screams “ready to win a maiden”, plus it has already handled Werribee with a placing on its only visit.

Value: Interrogate (Race 3, 14:00). It keeps turning up and running well (3632) and this looks the right trip and the right type of race for it to finally put a win on the page.

Banker for multis: Uyuni (Race 2, 13:30) to run a place. Drawn 3, consistent form (234-2), and it maps to get every chance again.

Each-way angle: Best Terms (Race 4). Consistent form (35-23) and John Allen’s Werribee record is strong enough to lean on with confidence.

Course angle: If you’re looking for something repeatable, it’s riders with real Werribee volume rather than one-off course stats. Allen’s 17-ride sample stands out on this card, and I’d rather follow that than get seduced by a one-from-one headline.

Keep an eye on how the inside gates play through the first two sprints; if the rail is a freeway early, it will sharpen the edge for the low draws in the later races too.

FAQ

What time does racing start at Werribee today?

Racing starts at 13:00 with the Corio Waste Management Maiden Plate over 1203m.

Who are the top jockeys and trainers at Werribee among today’s riders?

On meaningful volume, John Allen is the standout today: 17 rides at Werribee for 4 wins and 8 placings. Among trainers with decent history here, C Maher has 8 runners for 2 wins and 5 placings, while Ben, Will and JD Hayes have brought 13 runners for 1 win and 5 placings.

What are the best bets at Werribee today?

My Werribee best bets are Meleys in Race 4 (form 26-322, barrier 2) and Interrogate in Race 3 (form 3632, looks ready for the mile style trip at 1531m). For a safer multi piece, Uyuni in Race 2 profiles as a strong place chance off 234-2 from gate 3.

Where can I find the best odds for Werribee races?

Odds feeds weren’t available for this meeting in the data I pulled today, so I’d shop around manually with your preferred bookmakers close to jump time, especially for the maidens where late money can be more informative than early markets. If you want a single place to start, use your bookmaker’s fixed odds page and compare against an exchange if you have access.
