1. VERRY ELLEEGANT (2019)

At the time of writing, Verry Elleegant is one of the top gallopers in Australia and was victorious in the Australian Oaks in 2019, defeating Scarlet Dream. While she is known as a bit of a wet-tracker, her win in that race came on a Good surface at Randwick. In the lead in to her Oaks win she took out the key lead up to that race in the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m). The Chris Waller mare produced a superb 2020 spring, taking out three Group 1 races including the Winx Stakes (1400m), Turnbull Stakes (2000m) and the Caulfield Cup (2400m) ahead of Anthony Van Dyck. Her other Group 1 success came in the Tancred Stakes (2400m) in the autumn of 2020.

2. STREAMA (2012)

One of the last top gallopers for the late trainer, Guy Walter, Streama jumped as a $1.45 favourite in the 2012 edition of the Australian Oaks and arrived in the nick of time to overhaul Allyana Tide late in that race. She had previously filled the exacta behind the gun horse, Mosheen, in the Vinery Stud Stakes and captured the Surround Stakes earlier in the preparation. As a spring three-year-old she landed Group 1 glory in the Flight Stakes and as an older horse her major wins came in the George Main Stakes (1600m) and the Doomben Cup (2000m) in 2014, while she was placed in the Epsom Handicap (1600m), Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) and the Queen Of The Turf (1500m).

3. TRISCAY (1991)

A Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) winner at two, Triscay then won the Flight Stakes (1600m) in the spring but it was autumn three-year-old season when she was at her best. The daughter of Marscay defeated the boys in the Australian Guineas (1600m) before her Australian Oaks win and also headed to Queensland to take out the Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm later on.

4. GRAND ARCHWAY (1999)

Grand Archway was a solid youngster, winning three races as a two-year-old before showing an appreciation for staying trips in the Melbourne spring of 1998, taking out both the Wakeful Stakes (2000m) and the VRC Oaks (2500m). She resumed with a win under the Moonee Lights in the then Group 1 Australia Stakes (1200m) and then took out the Memsie Stakes (1400m) before running into a young Sunline in the Moonee Valley Oaks (2040m). At Sydney, she was too good for Light Work in this race, which was the last of her nine wins from 22 starts.

5. REPUBLIC LASS (2002)

Known for a stirring win over Northerly in the 2003 Ranvet Stakes (2000m), Republic Lass won the Australian Oaks in 2002 ahead of Elegant Fashion. She was sent out a $3.30 chance that day on the back of a strong win in the Adrian Knox Quality (2000m) a week earlier. A two-time Group 1 winner, she placed 3rd behind Northerly and Fields Of Omagh in the Caulfield Cup (2400m) and wasn’t far behind the likes of Northerly and Lonhro in a series of top races before retiring in 2003.
