Two horses stand out in this year’s Caulfield Cup, and the market appears to have it spot on with the Chris Waller-prepared VERRY ELLEEGANT as favourite ahead of Aidan O’Brien’s classy raider ANTHONY VAN DYCK.

Verry Elleegant is two from two in Group 1 races over 2400m, and both were fourth-up from a spell, which is exactly where she is on Saturday. She excels over this trip and her win in the Tancred Stakes last autumn was simply breathtaking.
Anthony Van Dyck beat European champ Stradavarius last start in the Prix Foy (2400m) and could have arguably beat US champ Bricks And Mortar with a bit more luck in the Breeders’ Cup Turf (2414m). He’s drawn wide, but with any luck in running, he’ll prove hardest for Verry Elleegant to get past.

DALASAN gets in extremely well at the weights here and meets Verry Elleegant 4kg better off after finishing 0.7 of a length from her in the Turnbull Stakes. He’s proven over 2500m and represents great value.

WARNING really caught the eye in the Turnbull and was hitting the line better than anything else late, while MASTER OF WINE and TOFFEE TONGUE are other great chances out of that race.

Third Tier Horses

CHIPADA won the Herbert Power second-up and could be open to plenty of improvement as he drops 3.5kg on that run.
PRINCE OF ARRAN has two wins and four placings from six starts in Australia and you simply can’t argue with those stats.

BUCKHURST and DASHING WILLOUGHBY look set for the Melbourne Cup but it wouldn’t surprise to see either run a bold race and fill the minor placings.
