BEST BET 🏆
Race 1: No.3 MOJAVE DESERT ($5.10 with BoomBet)
The Chris Waller-trained MOJAVE DESERT makes the trip north from Melbourne here and is capable of taking this contest out. Last start, the I Am Invincible colt was second-up and repeated his first-up effort, beating all but one home in a Two-Year-Old Plate over 1400m at Flemington. He ran his last 600m, 7 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here by more than 6 lengths. Waller slaps the blinkers on for the first time here and books Nash Rawiller for the ride. Ideally drawn in gate four, he maps to settle two or three pairs back (with cover) and fitter for two runs back, should be storming home late to make things interesting here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.4 QUANTICO ($3.60 with Bet Right)
Sydney trainer John O’Shea crosses the border with QUANTICO on the float who is second-here and ticks all the boxes in him claims for a victory in this event. Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding was fresh off a 10-week break when he finished second, beaten a whisker, in the Listed Ortensia Stakes over 1100m at Scone. He finished strongly that day, running the fastest final 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals for the race. J.Mac returns for this assignment after steering him to victory in a maiden as a three-year-old. Now a six-year-old, he is already a two-time winner when second-up and is a track and distance here as well. Nicely drawn in gate six, he maps to settle mid-field and should be finishing strongly again.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5: No.10 PRINCESS RHAENYS ($8.50 with Bet Right)
Tony Gollan saddles-up PRINCESS RHAENYS here who is third-up and looks well placed to avenge her unlucky loss at Doomben last Saturday. The Iffraaj mare made a sound impression last start when second-up, she beat all but Frumos home in the Group 3 Pam O’Neill Stakes over 1600m. Settling last after drawing wide (gate 10 of 12), she was always well back and the widest of them all as they swung. Spotting Frumos eight lengths, she stormed home to get within half a length of him as they hit the line. She covered the trip, 8.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, equalling that of Frumos, but ran the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the mile. The roles are reversed here with the mare drawing gate three and Frumos gets the wide gate (11) this time. Jason Collett sticks with her and we just might see a different outcome in this contest.
