BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.9  TOES IN THE WATER

The Nick Olive-trained TOES IN THE WATER resumes off a 17-week spell today and looks well placed here on fresh legs to bring up the hat-trick. The Maurice filly ended her last preparation with back-to-back wins before hitting the paddock. The last of those saw her destroy a BM58 field, taking out the 1400m event by three lengths on a Soft 6 at Nowra. Apprentice, Coriah Keatings has been in the saddle for all four races to date and has the reins again today. She is up in grade and distance today as she sees the Gundagai track for the first time. After the claim, she comes in a half kilo under the limit and maps to settle better than mid-field with cover from gate two. With a trouble-free run today, the three-year-old looks a serious player in this contest.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4:  No.10  MIKKI SHIMA

The Barbara Joseph Team saddles-up MIKKI SHIMA here who has her second race-start today and has the runs on the board to suggest she can go back-to-back in this contest. Last start, the Mikki Isle filly was a successful debut when she finished best to grab her Maiden win by a whisker on a Soft 6 over 1008m at the Sapphire Coast. Quayde Krogh steered her to victory that day and remains the pilot for this assignment. She gets the gun-run from gate one here and maps to settle just behind the speed. A repeat of her debut performance should see her hard to beat here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.8  OFFSPRING

To the big race of the day and while we have a white-hot ($1.65) favourite to consider, the Keith Dryden-trained OFFSPRING just has to overcome a wide gate he and he looks a genuine threat to victory today. Last start, the Zoustar mare was second-up in preparation for this when she improved out of sight to win a BM82 Hcp over 1400m at Wagga. A drifter in the market that day ($3.50-$6), she looked to have run her race soon after straightening, when Jeff Penza went to work on the mare who raised a second effort and finished strongly to arrive in time and take home the bacon that day. That was her third win from four second-up appearances. She is also a winner when third-up and today has Quayde Krogh in the saddle for the first time. While drawing the carpark in gate 16, the race favourite (Cliff House) has drawn even wider and will have similar issues to conquer. Despite the draw, the money came for her overnight ($15 into $8) and over a more suitable distance today, she looks a solid each-way chance today.
