BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.2  KAPSALI

Brett Dodson saddles-up KAPSALI here who is second-up and shooting for two-straight victories today. Last start, the More Than Ready gelding was fresh off a ten-week break when he destroyed a BM85 field on a Heavy 8 over 1500m at Coffs Harbour with Luke Rolls in the saddle. Coming from last on the turn, he powered home close to the outside fence (where the going was best) and taking over inside the final 150m, raced away to win by four lengths on the line. Rolls sticks with him today as he steps up to the mile trip where he is already a three-time winner. He is yet to win at the track but has finished runner-up twice in three visits to date. He spends no early money from gate five and already a winner when second-up, He looks a prime contender in this contest.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7:  No.3  OBLIVION

The John Sprague-trained OBLIVION has had just one hiccup this preparation but looks well placed here to give this contest a real shake today. Last start, the Winning Rupert gelding bounced back from an unplaced effort at Grafton and dropping back in grade, beat home a BM50 field over 1000m at Kempsey. With Ray Spokes aboard that day, he lumped 64.5kgs on a rain affected track to win by half a length on the line. Spokes sticks with him today where the gelding gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to settle in the first half-dozen with cover. At odds today, he looks right in the mix here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5:  No.6  THE YOUNG YEARS

We kick off proceedings with some real value and run with the Terry Evans-trained THE YOUNG YEARS who is second-up today and looks in line for back-to-back victories here. Last start, the well-bred Turn Me Loose mare came off a 15-week spell and despite the wide draw (gate 10 of 11), managed to settle outside the leader. Turning for home, he took over and in the driving rain, ran away from them to score by more than two lengths on the line in a 1200m Maiden at Tuncurry. Running 1:13 on a Heavy 10 and on fresh legs was an impressive effort. Darryl Mc Lellan was aboard that day and steers the ship again for this assignment. Ideally drawn in gate three today, she maps to be on the speed and fitter for that big first-up win, (currently) double-figure odds appears very generous from the bagmen. An each-way ticket looks the way to go with her today.
