Flemington Tips 30/03/2024

BEST BET 🏆

Race 8 No. 7 PRIDE OF JENNI- ($3.05)

Going with PRIDE OF JENNI in the Australian Cup. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper reeled off some staggering early splits in the All-Star Mile on March 16, going 23 lengths faster than standard benchmark until the 600m before eventually winning by two lengths. She went 19.5 lengths faster than standard overall, which is a better figure than what any horse in this race has produced. The six-year-old is now two from three in battles against Mr Brightside with those two wins coming at Flemington. 2000m is a different beast and I am trusting that Declan Bates to rate her perfectly out in front so she can stretch out over the 2000m. Her only start over the 2000m came last year when battling into 8th on a Heavy track at Randwick a year ago. But the late maturer is clearly better than what she was back then and will strike a drier track on Saturday. She comes into this third up and should have plenty left in the tank.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7 No.13 ESTRIELLA- ($3.40)

ESTRIELLA can go on with the job in Race 7. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper has won her two starts this preparation, dominating her rivals over the 1100m at Caulfield when resuming before leading and sticking on strong to score ahead of Robrick over the 1200m on March 2 at Flemington. She has run quick time in both of those and was an improper on benchmark figures when third up last time so there should be more to come. The daughter of I Am Invincible draws to get cover on the grandstand side from the barrier and will be ridden by Blake Shinn, who strikes at 25% for the stable, providing a 10% profit on turnover.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5 No. 4 NAJEM SUHAIL- ($10)

NAJEM SUHAIL is worth something at the eacj-way quote in Race 5. The six-year-old has been up for a while but has finished top two in six of his past 10 starts, winning three, while he has an excellent record at the track and trip. His only failure in that period came at his last run when last over the 1100m in a hot Oakleigh Plate. His best does seem to be the 1000m and he meets Katsu 1.5kg better at the weights for a defeat back at the track and trip in December, while he recorded some excellent figures in his 1000m wins at Flemington prior to that. The six-year-old will lead or settle handy and give them something to chase.
